Sony X850F Review (XBR65X850F, XBR75X850F, XBR85X850F)

The Sony X850F is a good 4k TV with an IPS panel. It can get bright to overcome glare and handles reflection well in a bright room but it has a very low contrast...

Feels responsive with low input lag Great motion handling Image remains accurate at an angle

Blacks appear gray and blotchy in a dark room

Good TV for a range of usages. Blacks appear gray and blotchy when viewed in a dark room such as watching movies at night, but in a bright room, the reflection handling is good and the TV can get bright to overcome glare. Image also remains accurate...

Sony XF85

Sony XF85 review: Sony's latest attempt to deliver an affordable 4K TV goes badly wrong. This edge-lit IPS panel can't do HDR.

Attractive, minimalistic design ; Bright, colourful pictures ; Good sound quality

Poor black level performance ; Android TV is sluggish and poorly organised ; Unpleasant remote control

One day, I guess, a TV may convince me that edge-lit IPS LCD panels are compatible with HDR. The Sony XF85, however, is definitely not that TV.

Sony Bravia X850F Series (XBR-65X850F) review

Sony's good run comes to a screeching halt

Affordable 65-inch TV ; Tidy, cable-free design ; Decent picture processing ; Solid sound quality

Poor contrast ; Android TV can annoy ; Inadequate HDR performance ; Picture issues

Sony's XF850F series is cutely designed and relatively affordable for 4K, HDR-capable TVs. Unfortunately, though, that’s pretty much where the good news ends. The set’s use of an IPS type of LCD panel and edge LED lighting means it just can’t deliver...

Sony Bravia XF85 4K HDR TV (KD-55XF8505) review

Sony's good run comes to a crushing halt

Affordable 55-inch TV ; Tidy, cable-free design ; Decent picture processing ; Solid sound quality

Poor contrast ; Android TV can annoy ; Inadequate HDR performance ; Picture issues

The 55XF8505 is cutely designed and relatively affordable for a 55-inch 4K, HDR-capable TV. Unfortunately, though, that’s pretty much where the good news ends. The set’s use of an IPS type of LCD panel and edge LED lighting means it just can’t deliver...

Sony KD-55XF8505 review: HDR woes hold back this 4K TV

The Sony XF8505 is a disappointing 4K HDR TV in among a far stronger line-up - from both competitors and Sony itself. Its panel choice means its weak

Reasonably affordable for a 55-inch 4K HDR TV ; Powerful sound ; Pictures from exclusively bright sources look decent

Dark scenes look washed out and grey in a problematic way ; Android TV continues to be a troublesome smart TV platform

Sony KD65XF8505BU television review

  (Rating Hidden)

Despite the popularity of OLED screens, Sony shows no sign of abandoning its high-end LCD business. New for 2018, the 65-inch Sony KDXF8505BU has a 4K screen, but misses out on the X1 Extreme processor and the extra HDR formats that the XF900 series...
