Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2

Sony's KDL-40XBR2 offers better color and image contrast than most HDTVs.

Excellent image contrast. Superb color quality. Stylish design with customizable features.

Lackluster standard definition video processing. Useless EPG. Decreased color saturation at relatively acute viewing angles.

Sony KDL-46XBR2

In that other format war, LCD flat panel technology has been making great strides in its attempt to match plasma in picture quality. Is this the year that LCD catches up?

There is a lot to like about the Sony KDL-46XBR2. Spot-on color temperature and realistic color reproduction when calibrated. Plus that mouth-watering detail -- 2 million pixels of it. It really can look breathtaking on certain high definition...

Sony KDL-46XBR2 LCD HDTV

There was a time in the not-too-distant past when a 46-inch LCD was a rarity, and a $3,800 asking price a bargain. As prices continue to plunge in this category, a $3,800 46-inch LCD finds itself occupying high-end territory. If a manufacturer wants to...

Sony KDL-46XBR2 LCD HDTV

For this price, you should expect 1080p resolution, and you get it. The Sony KDL-46XBR2 also has a larger screen, jumping from 42 to 46 inches—which makes more of a difference than you might think. At least for me, the 46-inch mark is the point at...

The KDL-46XBR2 isn't meant for the average consumer who wants a plug-and-play living-room TV on which to watch a lot of standard-definition sources. Clearly, Sony intends for this HDTV to be the anchor of a high-end home theater system sporting the...

Sony KDS-60XBR2 RPTV: On the Bench

Sony lit up the AV world and redefined microdisplay RPTV performance with its first generation of SXRD sets. These three-chip, full 1080p sets featured a dynamic iris for blacks and contrast that were good enough to finally bury the "yeah, but it's no...

Test Bench: Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR2 40-inch LCD HDTV

Color points were reasonably accurate. Overscan - the amount of picture area "hidden" behind the edges of the TV's screen - measured 0% for both the HDMI and component-video inputs with the Full Pixel modes active, while the set's other overscan...
