Sony HX800 Series

(Editor's note: This review of the Sony HX800 series is based on our hands-on testing and evaluation of the 40-inch 40HX800. According to the manufacturer, the image quality and features should be equivalent for each TV in this model line.)

Cool remote with power button on back ; Surround sound has a lot of depth

Colors are a little off and require tweaking ; Menus take up the entire screen

Sony's HX800 series' picture quality and surround sound are good enough to justify its current price.

Sony Bravia KDL-55HX800

The 55-inch LED-backlit Bravia KDL-55HX800 delivers solid 3D imagery, and an even-better 2D picture. Features are plentiful, but you'll pay dearly for this cutting-edge HDTV.

3D-ready. Very good 3D and 2D picture quality. Attractive cabinet. Plenty of Web apps.

Expensive. 3D glasses and transmitter cost extra. Some minor backlight blooming. Glasses are heavy and can become a bit uncomfortable when worn for long periods.

The Sony KDL-46HX800 ($2699 MSRP) is a 3D-ready TV. What does 3D ready mean, you ask. In short, it means you have to buy more accessories. Not just the glasses, which run $150 a pop. You also have a buy a "3D Sync Transmitter" for $50, which sits on...

The Sony KDL-46HX800 ($2699 MSRP) is a very good 2D TV that insists on milking every last dollar from your pocket to make it a 3D TV. It's incredibly frustrating. Prior to June 2010, Sony already had approximately 26 new televisions on the market, many...
