Sony KDL-55W800B

But this doesn't mean Sony has put out poor TVs, and in some cases the company can outdo its rival at the same price. Case in point: the W800B is a better performer than the Samsung H6350 , with better blacks, shadow detail, and uniformity.

The Sony KDL-W800B series is capable of pleasing shadow detail and decent color performance; one of the better black-level performances from a frame-dimming TV as well as a lack of black uniformity issues; very low lag means it's great for gamers; a...

Terrible 3D performance -- and I mean it really stinks. Local dimming TVs such as the cheaper Vizio E and M series can beat the Sony for blacks And it's on the pricey side.

The Sony KDL-W800B series is a classy television with excellent color and shadow detail, but in pure bang-for-buck terms, its black level can be bettered for much less.

Sony KDL-W800B series review

Back in the days of the CRT, Sony had a fairly unassailable position as the reference when it came to picture quality: everyone aspired to owning a Trinitron. Sadly, the company's reputation has dulled in recent years with the transition to LCD, and...

Sony KDL-70W850B

The Sony Bravia KDL-W850B series of HDTVs are reasonably priced edge-lit LED screens that, despite some minor issues with peak brightness and off-angle viewing, deliver a sharp 1080p picture with inky blacks and a high contrast ratio.

Beautifully designed. Generous feature set. Dark blacks.

Middling peak brightness. Some backlight bleeding. Color shifting at wide angles.

Conclusion With a list price of just under $1,700, the Sony Bravia KDL-60W850B is a compelling deal considering its size, overall performance, and wealth of features. Its low black level helps provide rich shadow detail, and both its 2D and 3D imagery...

Sony KDL-W850B series: Big TV with a picture-quality (w)edge

The wedge-shaped design of the Sony KDL-W850B makes for a unique look, and in addition to a good picture helps justify a relatively high price.

The Sony KDL-W850B evinced very good picture quality with deep black levels, relatively accurate color, solid video processing, and one of the best bright-room images in the business. Unusual styling with wedge-shaped design; well-rounded feature set...

Expensive; Smart TV interface is annoyingly Sony-centric and at times overwhelming; poor 3D picture quality.

Sony's wedge-shaped KDL-W850B TV offers better picture quality, albeit for a higher price, than many big-screen LCDs.

Sony KDL-70W850B

The W850B, available in 60 and 70 inches, is the least-expensive of those 2014 premium models, and the cheapest to incorporate the company's new "iconic wedge" design. But, true to Sony's heritage and the words of its reps, this TV is still pretty...

Sony KDL-70W850B Review – 70-inch LED HDTV

The KDL-70W850B does impress with an excellent picture quality. However compared to the W950B series, it is a little low on color richness and contrast. This shouldn't be a trouble with the X-tended Dynamic Range and Triluminous Display at your side....

Sony KDL-50W829B

It may have lost a star, but this 50in Sony is still worth an audition

Remarkably clear and detailed picture ; Natural colour balance ; Smooth motion ; Deep black levels ; Decent sound ; Smart interface is slick and intuitive ; Remote is responsive and easy to use ; Sleek design ; Good connectivity and features

Whites could be a touch brighter and punchier ; Hint of 3D image instability ; Reds could be more vivid ; Rivals offer crisper detail

This screen represents a welcome return to form for Sony, which seems to have swept aside most of last year’s troubling issues to present a confident picture that’s good to watch.
