Sony KDL-55X9005A

Another day, another sublime 4K TV, and the prices keep coming down, too.

Stunning UHD and upscaled picture quality ; Class-leading audio ; Fair price for what's on offer

Needs care to get good contrast ; Very little native 4K content at time of writing ; Doesn't carry true HDMI 2.0 inputs

The last really key 55X9005A picture set up tools you should definitely get involved with are its contrast controls. For reasons we’ll discuss in the performance section, you need to be quite careful with the set’s various contrast boosting tools. Our...

Sony Bravia KD-65X9005A

Say hello to the first (almost affordable) major brand 4K TV

4K pictures make you drool ; Sound quality is outstanding ; Groundbreaking 4K price

Some black level flaws ; Uncertainties over future HDMI standards ; 4K sources currently rare

Other picture fine tuners not directly related to 4k include a system for smoothing colour gradations, a separate detail enhancer, an (eminently avoidable) edge enhancer, dynamic contrast controls, controls for the dot and noise reduction systems,...

Sony KDL-65X9000A 4K

Hands-on: A stunning 4K/UHD 65-inch LCD TV that offers unmatched image quality.

In short, the overall impression we took away from our time with Sony's 65X9000A was of not just a remarkably well-rounded and high-performance TV, but also a genuine Sony 4K eco-system that's much closer to becoming a reality than we'd previously...

Sony 84-inch 4K TV review

The Sony KD-84X9005 4K TV offer four times the picture resolution of current HD screens.

Astonishing 4K image clarity ; X-Reality PRO upscaling ; Sharp ; artefact-free 3D

Stratospheric price point ; Uneven LED edge-lighting ; Not everything can be upscaled

Sony KD-65X9005A

The Sony's a good-looking, great-sounding TV, but it needs some 4K content to make the most of the extra resolution and justify that price

Amazing picture with 4K content ; Good Blu-ray picture and decent broadcast performance ; Great 3D picture ; Impressive sound ; Good connectivity and features

Blacks could be deeper and colours a bit more natural

Sony KD-55X9005A 4K TV review

Sony's 4K TV is a thing of beauty and brilliance – it's just a shame there's nothing to watch on it

Beautiful, premium design ; 4K looks flipping fantastic ; The best-sounding TV we’ve tested

Almost no 4K content to watch

The TV of the future, but there’s not enough content for it to be the TV of right now

Sony KD-65X9005A review

I've heard a startling amount of rubbish spouted about 4K/Ultra HD TVs in recent months. ‘Nobody cares about more pixels'. ‘The human eye can't perceive the difference between normal HD and 4K resolutions'. ‘Forget UHD – what we need is OLED.' ‘4K is...

Unbelievable Ultra HD pictures; supreme design and build; effective upscaling; astonishing sound quality

Black levels could be a touch better; there are sleeker Smart interfaces around; integrated speakers make the set bigger than you might imagine

Sony KD-65X9005A 65-inch 4K TV

Nothing less than the herald for a new era of TV technology, Sony's glossy 65-inch Ultra HD KD-65X9005A plays Silver Surfer to the Galactus that is 4K. For those who haven't been paying attention, Ultra HD offers four times the resolution of today's...

Incredible definition for the price, fantastic design, image quality, 3D performance is unbeatable, great sound, great internet connectivity

The price is high, dual tuners would be nice, HDMI 1.4 is provided but the 2.0 standard is on the horizon, no 60Hz 4K support (30Hz only)

If the Sony KD-65X9005A is genuinely the harbinger of a new era of UHD TV, then we're all in for an exhilarating time over the next couple of years. This television sets new standards both in terms of raw picture performance and design, and perhaps the...
