Sony Master Series XBR-65Z9F

Sony's Master Series Z9F LCD TV has a remarkably bright picture and the convenience of hands-free Google Assistant voice control, for a premium price.

Bright picture with strong contrast. Wide color gamut. Android TV with hands-free Google Assistant.

Yellows are very warm out of the box. Clunky, dated remote. Some light bloom.

Bottom Line: Sony's Master Series Z9F LCD TV has a remarkably bright picture and the convenience of hands-free Google Assistant voice control, for a premium price.

Sony Z9F Review (XBR65Z9F, XBR75Z9F)

The Sony Z9F is a great TV for almost any type of use. It can get extremely bright and it handles reflections very well, so it can be placed in almost any bright...

Great local dimming feature. Extraordinarily bright in SDR and HDR. Excellent low input lag.

Disappointing contrast ratio.

The Sony Z9F is a great TV for most uses. It's especially well-suited for playing video games, and it's a good choice for use as a PC monitor. Movies look great, but dark room performance isn't as great due to the contrast ratio. The TV is extremely...

Performance Features Ergonomics Value

Sony ZF9 (KD-65ZF9) hands on review: price, release date and a first look at this monster of an LED LCD 4K HDR TV

Sony's latest big screen LED is evolution, not revolution – this premium full array LED LCD bows out of the nit-race but still wants to woo cinephiles

High precision direct LED backlight is the business ; X1 Ultimate image processor works wonders ; Android Oreo TV OS looks much improved

Limited black level performance ; Not the brightest HDR performer in its class

Sony Bravia Z9F (XBR-65Z9F) review

Not quite the sequel we'd hoped for

Bright, colorful HDR pictures ; Excellent video processing ; More affordable than expected ; Wide viewing angle support

Backlight clouding issues ; Contrast not the best ; Vocal playback issues ; Requires careful set up

Sony's Z9F LCD is a dizzying mix of delight and disappointment. On one hand, Sony’s new X1 Ultimate processor is terrific, delivering numerous subtle but cumulatively outstanding improvements to TV picture quality. On the other, though, the Z9F...

Sony ZF9 4K TV review: Legendary wide viewing angle is let down by black levels

The first LCD TV to offer groundbreaking wide viewing angles. Its picture quality suffers black level issues, though, so it's not an all-out success.

Superb colour and sharpness and motion handling thanks to Sony’s new video processing ; Ground-breaking wide viewing angle for LCD technology ; Much cheaper than its illustrious predecessor

Significant black level/contrast issues – including general greyness and blooming during wide-angle viewing ; New version of Android TV is still far from perfect

Sony has solved the LCD conundrum of wide viewing angle issues. Which is incredible. Yet, sadly, the ZF9 has issues with black levels that make it not as impressive as its ZD9 predecessor.
