While the 42HL833 is okay, it does also remind us that the simple act of putting edge LED lighting in an LCD TV doesn't automatically produce a better picture than a good CCFL screen can.

It’s very cheap for a 42in edge LED TV, Decent USB multimedia flexibility, Pictures sometimes look impressive

No Freeview HD tuner, No DLNA or online features, Contrast/backlight flaws

Basic, generally sound and very affordable workhorse with edge LED backlighting

Decent price for a 42-inch edge LED TV ; Bright pictures are surprisingly good ; Minimal motion blur ; Easy to use

Black levels lack depth ; Backlight inconsistency ; No 3D or online connectivity

Fantastic picture quality and very light compared to my previous TV. Really easy to use with the remote.

Slow to start up and it really needs a sound system when watching Blu-ray movies.

Excellent picture quality and value for money.

The sound is pretty poor. I'm going to have to invest in some speakers so if it's a great sound without speakers you are after then this probably isn't for you.
