Toshiba's flagship LCD TV is good, but not quite good enough

Incredibly rich colours ; Impressively sharp HD pictures ; Good connectivity

Toshiba 42Z3030D

Stunning all round ability let down only by mediocre black level performance ..

The Toshiba 42Z3030D may not ultimately claim the title of best medium sized LCD TV, but it has certainly joined a select group of leading manufacturers including Panasonic and Sony who are at the leading edge of LCD technology.

Excelent picture from Freeview, even the VCR produces a good picture via SCART, CD play via SCART is very also good. The PC connection produces brilliant pictures from my laptop.

Excellent display from digital source, however normal (non hi-def) can be very ropey with very noticable pixiliation. Sound quality adequate, requires external speakers to match the big picture.

Sound lets the set down. Handset and not as intuititive as it should be unless tied with another Toshiba REGA linked product.

Good SD picture but depends on source. Fantastic HD picture. Great quality sound for an LCD. Easy to navigate menus. Good quality feel to the TV including the stand. Can get good black levels after tweaking. 100Hz - Good for sports viewing. Highly...

Optical output only works for DTV . Shame because it would be useful for all outputs. Settings are global - would have been useful to have settings per input (Scart, HDMI, Component etc)
