VF550XVT

The Vizio VF550XVT isn't much of a bargain, despite the reasonable $1800 price tag (as of April 16, 2009). Assorted problems with image quality, weak sound, and clumsy menus, along with a lack of interesting features, make this set difficult to recommend.

Remote well backlit Has picture-in-picture

Configuration menus are confusing Unimpressive sound

In my experience, Vizio TVs usually deliver very good pictures at a reasonable price, but I was quite disappointed by the VF550XVT's performance. Let's hope it proves to be an aberration

Vizio VF550XVT HDTV Review

Remote well backlit ; Has picture-in-picture

Configuration menus are confusing ; Unimpressive sound

The Vizio VF550XVT carries a reasonable price, but its image, sound, and extra features don't add up to a very good HDTV.

Vizio VF550XVT

Vizio's 55-inch VF550XVT 1080p LCD TV sure is a bargain, but it requires some tweaking to achieve its full picture potential.

Low price. Energy efficient. Produces detailed HD video. HDMI cable included.

Diminished picture quality with some SD sources. Picture calibration recommended. Unique design might not appeal to all tastes.

Vizio VF550XVT review: Vizio VF550XVT

Vizio VF550XVT

Relatively inexpensive; accurate color; plenty of picture setup adjustments; highly tweakable dejudder processing; superb connectivity with five HDMI and one PC input.

Lighter black levels; dejudder processing prone to artifacts; below-average off-angle performance.

Although better-performing 52-inch models are available for less money, the 55-inch Vizio VF550XVT will appeal to less-critical viewers who want a bigger screen.

Vizio VF550XVT LCD HDTV Review - Intro

The Vizio VF550XVT is Vizio's largest LCD HDTV at 55-inches. It's also part of their high-end XVT lineup of televisions, featuring 120Hz refresh rate, which should improve motion performance. When we looked at one of Vizio's other XVT lineup of...

The VF550XVT sits at the top of Vizio's lineup. It's their biggest LCD television at 55-inches and sports high-end features like 120Hz refresh rate. It's also amongst the most expensive of Vizio's HDTVs, with prices ranging from $1800 to $2200...

Reviewed with Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer

I'm a big fan of "America's number 1" LCD HDTV provider, VIZIO, and its wide range of home entertainment products. I've reviewed two previous LCD HDTV models (a 42-inch and a 47-inch), but I wanted to review something bigger and better. And I got the...

Vizio VF550XVT LCD HDTV

If you read my review of the Vizio VP505XVT plasma HDTV in the April 2009 issue, you know that I think it is—or, more accurately, was—the best flat-panel value on the market. (Just after that review went to press, Vizio announced it was getting out of...

Vizio VF550XVT 55-inch 120Hz 1080p LCD TV Reviewed

This top-of-the-line 55-inch LCD is an incredible value in its class. It offers an integrated soundbar, HQV video processing, and 120Hz technology. Andrew Robinson puts the VF550XVT to the test ...

For a sub-$2,000 HDTV measuring in at 55-inches its hard to fault the Vizio VF550XVT for its price alone allows you to forgive some of its short comings. While I consider it a huge value and perhaps a class leader there are some issues with it. For...

It's utterly amazing just how far your hard earned money can go in today's HDTV market. This time last year a set of the VF550XVT's size and technology would've run you three if not five times as much, and yet here it sits in front of me in all its...

Finally, and most importantly, when you're adjusting a picture control, it does not drop to the bottom of the screen, and the rest of the menu does not disappear. This obscures the image you're trying to tweak. Why couldn't Vizio simply implement the...
