I had similar problems with loss of suction. Replacing the filter solved the problem. It is not the best vacuum cleaner in the world but does the job.

This vacuum cleaner seemed like a good idea... but it sucks. It drops the dirt back on the floor after it has sucked anything up and is generally really unfriendly to use. It is very noisy so not good when the 3 year old is sleeping. I really hate it.
