Google Cardboard

The virtual reality competition is spending big bucks on what's quickly shaping up to be the next frontier in electronic entertainment, and they're expecting us to do the same. Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion , and you can expect to spend about...

Google Cardboard is a fun, inexpensive way to turn nearly any Android phone or iPhone into a virtual reality viewer, allowing nearly anyone to get in on the fun.

The extremely simplistic experience means it's only as good as your phone -- don't expect this to measure up to full-fledged VR goggles like Oculus, Gear VR or Vive.

Google Cardboard isn't a contender for the VR throne: it's the ambassador that'll make us care about virtual reality in the first place.

Google Cardboard Review: Better Than Nothing

When Google Cardboard launched in 2014, there was little else in the way of VR on the market. That is hardly the case today, but Cardboard retains its place as the gateway into the medium. At $15, Cardboard is incredibly cheap, and, by supporting both...

Very cheap ; Supports Android and iOS ; Solid app ecosystem

Flimsy design ; No head straps

As one of the cheapest and easiest virtual reality viewers on the market, Google Cardboard is the de facto device for VR beginners.

Cheap, mobile virtual reality that's a cinch to make

Super cheap ; Easy to use ; Affordable fun

Quality not the best ; Limited functionality

Simple, cheap and good fun, Google Cardboard is perfect for anyone who wants to give VR a whirl without breaking the bank.

Google Cardboard review: The cornerstone of mobile VR

Google Cardboard was announced at Google I/O in June 2014, and consists of two parts: a virtual reality (VR) headset, technically called a viewer, and the software ecosystem that supports it. Google Cardboard is very much the cornerstone of mobile VR....

Cheap, lots of free apps, YouTube 360 videos are fantastic, plentiful viewer choices, easily accessible

Viewers made from cardboard won't last long, huge variation in content quality, lots of different navigation methods (some poor)

Google Cardboard is very much the cornerstone of mobile VR. It's cheap and easy to access which is vitally important. Although some of this is an evolution of 3D content, with Cardboard viewers being cheap, YouTube supporting 360 degree video formats...
