HTC Vive review

The Oculus Rift may have brought virtual reality into the public eye, but HTC's Vive, built in partnership with Valve, does it better. Does the Vive still represent the true future of virtual reality, or are there better competitors on the market?

Incredibly immersive ; Hardware works well ; Decent launch library ; Precise, intuitive controls ; Easy to set up

Headset cord can get in the way ; Field of view isn’t wide enough for full immersion ; Headset can get sweaty

HTC Vive review: Yes, this is the best VR experience, if you've got the space

The HTC Vive is the closest we've come to a full-room virtual simulation. It's amazing, and it's hardcore. But it's a lot of gear.

The HTC Vive offers a flat-out amazing virtual reality experience with sharp visuals, great motion controls and full-room sensing to walk around in virtual space. Vive hardware can help indicate where your walls are, and an in-helmet camera can be used...

It requires a high-end PC to run. Long wires and lots of equipment take time and space to set up. Steam VR offers a lot of software but it isn't always beginner-friendly.

Vive is the best virtual-reality experience you can have right now, thanks to its motion controls and room-scale tracking. It's the closest thing to having a holodeck in your home.

HTC Vive review: Reach out and touch the virtual world

It's 2:30 a.m., I'm in my bedroom, and I am under attack. Blue and red orbs hurtle towards me and I throw up my arms to deflect them, swaying back and forth to the angry snare hits in Led Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand. My actual arms—not pressing...

Room-scale VR is incredible at enhancing experiences ; Base stations accurately track an area up to 15ft x 15ft ; Vive controllers borrow liberally from Steam Controller, with excellent results

Headset design not as comfortable as Oculus Rift ; Needs lots of space to take full advantage. Space most people don't have ; SteamVR, at least at launch, is unstable and crash-prone

If we chart the progression of video games from Spacewar and Zork all the way through to 2016, then the HTC Vive is the next logical step towards realism.

HTC Vive Review – the Holodeck you always wanted

Virtual Reality is finally coming of age, and with Vive, HTC and Valve believe they have the finest and most flexible interpretation of next-generation gaming. A surprise announcement just a year ago, Vive aims to out-immerse Oculus' Rift by spreading...

Not all virtual reality is created equal. While Oculus’ Rift, Sony’s PlayStation VR, and HTC’s Vive all fall under the VR banner – not to mention Samsung’s Gear VR, Google’s Cardboard, and a host of other options – the actual experience can vary...

HTC Vive Review: The Cost of True VR Freedom

The HTC Vive delivers an unrivaled virtual-reality experience with crisp graphics, accurate room tracking and intuitive touch-enabled controllers, but you'll need lots of space.

Room-tracking technology is eerily accurate ; Smooth graphics with little latency ; Touch controllers are easy to use and highly adaptable ; Large library of games

Requires a lot of space and electrical outlets to use ; No built-in audio ; SteamVR Interface can be difficult to navigate

Overall, the HTC Vive offers the most comprehensive and immersive virtual-reality experience yet in terms of sight, sound and movement.

HTC Vive review: the best thing in virtual reality yet [hands-on]

HTC has presented an early version of its new virtual reality headset called Vive at MWC 2015 . Vive represents the fruits of a partnership with Valve to bring a VR device to HTC's product lineup and to consumers at large. It's a bulky thing, like most...

For a prototype to be this good already is phenomenal. HTC may not be the first company that comes to mind when you think about VR, but it soon will be. The partnership with Valve brings some serious VR credentials to the project and I expect HTC will...

If you can afford it and have the room for it, the HTC Vive offers, quite simply, the best virtual-reality experience you can get.

HTC Vive review

HTC Vive might still be the reigning champ of PC-based virtual reality, but Oculus Rift is closing the gap.

Best VR experience Intuitive controls Software partnership with Valve

Still a bit pricey... Requires a high-end GPU Less comfortable than the Rift

If you have the budget, the HTC Vive is the best virtual reality experience on the market, bar none.
