Toshiba IK-WB15A

There are two types of webcams: the cheap devices used for online chats, and the expensive models used for video surveillance. Toshiba's new IK-WB15A Network Camera falls squarely in the latter category, but it offers some features you won't find on...

Support for IEEE 802.3af means you can rig the IK-WB15A in a location where there’s no electrical outlet; the camera can draw power over a simple Cat-5 cable. Unfortunately, Toshiba decided to include a conventional AC power supply with this camera,...

TOSHIBA IK-WB15A 630 K pixels MAX Resolution RJ45 IP Network Camera

I bought this camera 2 years ago to replace an IK-WB01a model, and was pleased with most of the improvements they made (but not all). The older model had an imager like a cheap cellphone camera, so the improvements in image quality and live audio were...

Affordable PTZ camera with many features

Missing a lot of features that could have been included ; Documentation needs work ; Should have been able to record video without 3rd-party $oftware ; Settings vulnerable to power failures

Fogging issue makes them poor

We use over 250 Toshiba cameras. Over 80% of the 15a's have fogging issues. The internal side of the dome gets a oily fog which you have to disassemble the entire camera to clean the dome.

Decent image, inexpensive PTZ with zoom

Inside dome fogging making camera worthless. Toshiba knows about the issue but can't/won't do anything about it

It's okay

For a demo of the IK-WB15A, you can check out webcam.janeandjohn.org - they are static images, but you can at least see for yourself. I am still actively tweaking the settings, so I hope to get the image a little better over time. I tried a Panasonic...

Toshiba has improved the firmware quite a bit over the earlier generation IK-WB11A (which I have used for years.) One advantage is the ability to upload (FTP) either a time-stamped file, or you can now choose one file name and the cam will overwrite on...

In spite of Toshiba touting their new 1/4" image sensor in this cam, there is no doubt the image of the old IK-WB11A is *quite* a bit better. Sharper and better color saturation in the earlier model. Still the image isn't too bad in the WB15A, just not...

Best Outdoor Network Camera for the Money

5 of these cameras mounted outdoors have been used for recording/webserving mpeg4 surveillance video for several months now using inexpensive Blue Iris software. This camera/software combination has provided great performance and reliability. It's easy...

Currently best value/features for the money ; Outdoor rated POE semi-weatherproof Network camera ; Clear 1280x960 resolution with Auto Day/Night function ; 2.6x optical zoom & good low light performance ; Responsive & fast PTZ with auto day/night ;...

Only jpeg files can be recorded from built-in firmware ; Additional software required to record any video files ; No setting in firmware to auto move camera to a "home" position after time interval ; Only 7.5fps @ 1280x960 resolution ; Long term...

Good Res

This camera has great resolution and works very fast over 150 feet of aerial CAT5 to a cable modem backbone as a webcam at a construction site. Has all the bells and whistles, pan, tilt, zoom, auto centering and auto patrol as long as you have IE6/7

The image gets grainier as the zoom maxes out, but thats the downside to digital zoom. Doesnt work with Firefox 3.03. POE dongle not provided. Has no built in IR illuminator which makes the night vision pretty much useless unless there is enough...

Good Product

I bought this camera to use as a wildlife camera near a redtailed hawk's nest and although it's intended as a security camera it seems to be fine for my purpose.

For a remote installation I'd like to see a better strain relief setup for the ethernet cable.

Review of Toshiba tech support

Great tech support! In addition, He told me that they are planning to post the latest firmware download this week. Finally, I suspect that the banding I mention when using the highest resolution is due to the output being SXVGA which may not be handled...
