It used to be that the megapixel count was the main distinguishing feature between compact digital cameras. Today, most digital cameras feature well over 10 megapixels of image resolution, which is more than enough to create poster-sized prints. When working at this scale, every little imperfection in the camera becomes clear. A sub-par lens can cause slight distortions; inaccurate auto-focus can leave details blurry; and slow shutter speeds make capturing action impossible.

Tablet computers have burst onto the scene solely based on the popularity of Apple’s iPad, and it seems like everyone has to have one. Tablets offer a new compromise between portability/convenience and performance. They have screens that are large enough to make watching movies and reading e-books a pleasure, but don’t weigh you down like a laptop or even a netbook. They also offer full Web browsing capabilities, multi-media, gaming, and more.
Without a doubt, 3D is the next big innovation in home entertainment. 3D is an old technology, but the recent success of films like Avatar and Clash of the Titans has brought renewed interest… and today’s advances mean that the quality and level of immersion of 3D images is better than ever. Early reports are very exciting, and note that 3D television tends to draw the viewer into the image landscape, rather than duplicate the “bursting from the screen” effect that is common with theatrical 3D. Either way sounds pretty good to me!
