Huawei P9 Smartphone Review

Leica style. Huawei relies entirely on the camera in the P8's successor, and once again sets up an impressive overall package. The new showcase smartphone is even higher quality and the battery is also larger. However, there is still room for improvement.

fast SoC, expandable storage, wide frequency configuration, good cameras, call quality, headset included, Quick Charge, USB Type-C, decent battery life

no App2SD, LTE Cat. 6 only, no radio receiver, no infrared, no MHL or SlimPort, USB 2.0 only, DNGs cannot be stored on the micro-SD, SoC throttles under permanent load

The Chinese company continues the success story of its P series with the Huawei P9, and consistently develops its flagship further. Once again, the great IPS panel, good performance, photo quality of the Leica dual-camera, the strong battery life and...

Huawei P9 camera deep dive: Is the Leica brand and dual-camera design worthy of the hype?

Huawei has placed major stars and advertising around it's Leica-branded P9 smartphone. Testing shows the camera is special, in large part due to the software experience.

Huawei P9 review: good design outshines dual cameras

I finished writing my review of the Huawei P9 on Friday. Today's Tuesday, I have a Galaxy S7 and two iPhones in my immediate vicinity, and I'm still using the Huawei P9. Have I taken leave of my...

True premium design ; Perfect dimensions for single-handed use ; Super fast fingerprint sensor ; Information-dense notifications

Not the best battery life or performance from an Android flagship ; Display and camera are just fine, not outstanding ; Fans of stock Android should look elsewhere

Huawei P9 review:

Huawei's flagship P9 is perhaps best seen as a camera with a smartphone attached.

The dual-lens camera takes great photos, particularly in black and white, and the phone's slim design makes it easy to carry around.

Huawei's Android skin is awkward to use and loaded with bloatware. The screen resolution should be higher, given the price.

It might take fancy photos, but the Huawei P9's high price means it's not a good choice over the similarly priced Samsung Galaxy S7.

Huawei P9 ( 64GB, rose gold)

Sporting not just the Leica brand name -- one of the most well-respected names in the photography industry -- it also has not one but two cameras on its back. One lens shoots exclusively in black and white, while the two together provide a DSLR-style...

Huawei P9 review: Smart camera has it snapping at the heels of the flagship titans

Despite its innovative dual-lens camera system, the P9 doesn't threaten today's leading flagship smartphones. However, it wouldn't take much to turn the P-series into a genuine challenger.

Dual-lens (RGB, B&W) camera system ; Excellent fingerprint scanner ; Good battery life

Emotion UI overlay may not appeal ; Uninspired design ; Moderate screen resolution ; Lacks wireless and fast charging

Huawei P9 review: New phone, familiar tricks

If there's one feature that will convince you to buy Huawei's P9, it's the clever camera. Two separate sensors let you take gorgeous, native monochrome images and play around with depth of field, not to mention other fun and useful shooting modes....

Fun, versatile camera ; Excellent performance

Unexciting design ; Lacking in standout features ; Questionable value for the money

The P9 is a perfectly good smartphone, particularly when it comes to performance and camera tricks. I had a ton of fun playing around with all the shooting modes, ogling the gorgeous native black-and-white images, and fiddling with bokeh. But the dual...

Huawei P9 review

Huawei's P9 is ready to rumble with it's incredible Leica camera tech and sleek metal body.

Huawei has been searching for a winning smartphone for years. The Chinese company has come close to perfection before with the Mate 8 and the Nexus 6P, which we called the best Android phone of 2015, but it hasn’t quite landed on the right combination...

Huawei P9 review: Another solid Android choice for some

I'd be lying in this review if I didn't say that smartphone design just seems to be in a stagnant sense of being.

Really nice design keeps up with mid-tier standards, great cameras

Huawei skin isn't for everyone, will need custom launcher, design isn't ground breaking and weak speaker

The P9 is a really nice phone, the UI is not for everyone and those who don't know how to use custom launchers will be stuck here. But if you can get used to the iOS like skin, then this is a great phone choice.

Huawei P9 Review

Some say that the best camera is the one you have with you, which is one of the reasons why people now turn to their phones for snapping the occasional photo. The Huawei P9, however, doesn't want to be just another phone with a good camera. It is here...

Smooth UI performance ; Fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate ; Good call quality

Battery life is average at best ; Display colors are saturated, but artificial ; No NFC for 64GB and dual-SIM models

There’s a steep price tag attached to the Huawei P9. In its basic configuration, the smartphone retails for $600 to $650, which means that buyers will be expecting to get tons of value in return.
