Sony Ericsson W960 review: Walkman extreme

Sony Ericsson W960 is aptly the big gun in the Sony Ericsson portfolio of music-centered handsets. Gifted with the scorching 8GB of storage space and a large touchscreen TFT display, a 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities, the W960 easily...

Walkman Touch music player ; Symbian OS 9.1 with UIQ 3.0 ; 3G support with video calls ; Wi-Fi support ; 3 megapixel camera with autofocus ; 8GB of storage space ; Dedicated touch-sensitive player keys ; 262K color TFT touchscreen display ; FM radio

Not as impressive in life as in the promotional photos ; Slow interface response as storage gets nearly used up ; Back key location changed ; No memory card slot (yeah, we know it has 8GB of internal memory) ; Music player cannot sort tracks by...

Sony Ericsson W960 Preview

As the W960 features 8GB of integrated memory, it is trying to directly rival the higher class stand alone portable music players. In order to be competitive, it must be able to obtain fast transfer of data with the computer, so the music won't take...

Sony Ericsson W960i

The W960i is bursting at the seams with features; so much so that it struggles to keep up with the processing and is let down by its laggy interface.

Wi-Fi connectivity, 8GB internal memory, Mixed touchscreen/keypad input, Business card reader, Excellent Walkman music player

Super-laggy interface, Bad predictive text, No 3.5mm headphone jack

Sony Ericsson W960i

The Sony Ericsson W960i is a "Walkman" version of the Sony Ericsson P1i 3G smartphone, and it can be considered to be a straight upgrade to the existing W950i.

It is an unusually elegant looking device, available in one colour only (Vinyl Black). Despite the wide range of features, the W960i weighs a reasonable 119 grams and measures 109 x 55 x 16mm. Sony Ericsson anticipate that the W960i should be available...

Sony Ericsson W960

Once in a while, we, as consumers, witness partnerships of big name companies that offer us products that either fall short of expectations or thrill and delight us in many ways. Apparently, the cellular phone industry is not excluded from this trend....

A good all around handset with all the nifty features the modern consumer looks for in a phone.

Sony Ericsson W960i

The Sony Ericsson W960i marks yet another entry into the increasingly crowded 'touch screen' mobile phone market. With the Apple iPhone setting its si...

Versatile interface, impressive camera, 8GB internal memory, excellent music player

No memory card slot, no built-in 3.5 microphone jack, price, occasionally sluggish interface, erratic predictive text input

The W960i ticks most of the boxes we expect from a good music player, including smart applications, great functionality and oodles of on-board memory. Unfortunately, a few design blunders have left it slightly wanting as a mobile phone.

Sony Ericsson W960i

Complete with a touch display, decent camera and 8GB of storage, is this mobile phone a significant improvement over its predecessor?

I don't understand why these two groups aren't conflated into one, and no, you can't alter the structure. Once you are experienced with the phone it's probably not a significant point, but there is a definite learning curve.

Sony Ericsson W960i review

Highest end Walkman has some dazzling features, but it's not the easiest to use

Great 3.2 megapixel camera with good editing features ; Useful 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity ; Generous 8GB internal storage ; Simple touchscreen interface

Occasionally slow operation ; Awkward to navigate ; Battery life isn't great ; No memory card expansion

The top-of-the-range Walkman is certainly packed with features, it's just a shame it isn't a bit easier to use.

Sony Ericsson W960i review

Most Sony Ericsson Walkman phones are small, inexpensive models. The W960i is Sony's flagship Walkman phone: an expensive, fully fledged smartphone as well as a music player.
