Sony Xperia Z5 Smartphone Review

My name is Z5. Sony Xperia Z5. The new top model from the Xperia series is the official Bond smartphone and is supposed to have the best smartphone camera in the world. Our review will check whether owners of the predecessor should upgrade as well and...

bright, high-contrast IPS display, decent resolution and good colors, good build quality, long battery runtimes, comprehensive connectivity, good wireless modules, great performance, intuitive handling, very good fingerprint scanner, expandable...

CPU and GPU throttling, location of the volume rocker, no replaceable battery, mediocre front camera, Quick Charger costs extra, mediocre writing and reading performance

After the review of the Sony Xperia Z3+ we wanted a very good flagship device from Sony that is actually ready for the market. Our wish was granted by the Japanese developers. How did they pull it off? Well, they eliminated the biggest issues, starting...

Sony Xperia Z5 (Unlocked)

The unlocked Sony Xperia Z5 is an attractive Android phone with solid performance, but there are better options available for the price.

Fast performance. Sharp camera. Attractive build. Expandable memory.

Pricey for what you get. Middling battery life.

Software and Conclusions The Z5 automatically updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow upon booting. Sony isn't the first or the fastest manufacturer when it comes to Android updates, but it's reliable, so I expect the Z5 to receive an update to Android N at...

Sony Xperia Z5 Review Part 1: The Camera

Some people couldn't care less about the camera on their smartphone; if you're interested in Sony's new Xperia Z5, there's a good chance you're not one of them. The handset sports an image sensor the same size as ones you'll find in many ordinary...

It’s important to remember that our evaluation and criticisms of the Xperia Z5 are in relation to one of the better smartphone cameras presently available and one rated very similarly to the Z5, that of the Galaxy S6. While there are instances where...

Sony Xperia Z5 review

Competent and handsome, Sony's Xperia Z5 still struggles to stand out.

The Sony Xperia Z5 isn’t a flagship phone, and is also too expensive to be considered a true mid-range handset. It sits in something of a no-man’s land, yet has the goods to be more than serviceable. The issue is that the device doesn’t do enough to...

Sony Xperia Z5 review: A decent phone overshadowed by the competition

Sony's Xperia Z5 is a mobile photographer's dream with a breathtaking camera and great display. However, you're likely to be turned offby the underwhelming battery life. It's a respectable choice, but other Android handsetsare even more compelling.

One of the best smartphone cameras on the market ; Great performance ; Lovely screen

Sony's design language is getting tired ; Underwhelming battery life ; Last year's version of Android

In all of the areas where Sony has a long and storied history of producing products, the Xperia Z5 is able to show its strengths. The camera has a fair claim to being one of the finest mobile lenses on the market today, and there's already a rumor that...

Sony Xperia Z5 graphite black

Well, not quite. The mobile phone landscape has changed dramatically in the past year with Samsung really shaking things up with its Galaxy S6 Edge. By totally redesigning its flagship handset with metal and curving glass , Samsung managed to inject...

The Sony Xperia Z5 looks good, has plenty of power, its camera can take some great snaps and it won't die when you spill your drink on it.

Only minor updates from its predecessor means it lacks the excitement of its rivals. Its waterproofing no longer allows for full submersion, meaning it can't be used for underwater photography.

Even with strong specs befitting a high-end phone, the Sony Xperia Z5 adds little over its predecessor to make it an exciting option over rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact review

Twice a year every year, Sony issues a new flagship Android smartphone. This rapid pace has propelled us from 2013's Xperia Z to today's Xperia Z5, across five generations of what's been...

Brilliant camera quality ; Very good battery life ; Elegant, waterproof design

Slow and stuttery user experience ; Glass back is fragile ; Fingerprint sensor is inconsistent ; Display is just okay

DxOMark Mobile report: Sony Xperia Z5

The latest generation of Sony's high-end smartphones comes with some significant changes in the camera specification for the first time since the Xperia Z1. A 23MP 1/2.4" BSI CMOS sensor is paired with an F2.0 lens and dual-LED flash. Sony claims the...

Sony Xperia Z5 Review

Unlike some of its competitors (cough-Samsung-cough-LG), Sony isn't used to flooding the market with products. It likes to take its time and come up with just a few handsets each year: one or two budget phones here, a couple of mid-rangers there, and,...

Classy, timeless appearance ; Very bright display ; Top-shelf chipset ; Dust- and water-resistant (IP68)

Sharp edges make it uncomfortable to hold ; Software experience needs more work ; Disappointing camera ; Stereo speakers don't sound good

We wanted to like the Xperia Z5, but Sony isn't making it easy for us. This otherwise good-looking phone doesn't feel quite right in the hand. The software experience moves at a satisfying pace, but comes with a bunch of issues and imperfections that...
