Digital Video Recorders: ReplayTV PC Edition

This full-featured DVR software is more robust than a standard TiVo or DVR set-top box, but setup is a little awkward.

Extensive search options. Recorded video easily played on other Windows systems. Easy to add storage. Cheaper than TiVo or cable-company DVRs.

Requires Hauppauge video hardware. Doesn't currently support multiple tuner cards or high-definition video. Unless your graphics card has a TV output, you'll have to use your computer monitor as the television. Subject to recording hiccups.

ReplayTV PC Edition

The company that invented the DVR is re-inventing it. ReplayTV has left the living room to TiVo, last-generation ReplayTV recorders, and cable and satellite providers that offer DVRs as a premium feature.
