Rock Xtreme CTX Pro

Six months back, laptops were encircling desktop territory - we were seeing more and more portable machines with desktop-grade CPUs and graphics cards. Take Intel's Centrino Duo and the GeForce 7900GO as your pudding-proof providers

Bright, crisp screen, Great CPU and GPU, MCE as standard

No DX10 support

It's a real cracker of a machine but hang on until the Vista launch dust has settled before you buy

Rock Xtreme CTX Pro

Completing our pair of Merom-based laptops this month (click here for our review of the Hi-Grade UltiNote D6000-2102) is Rock's Xtreme CTX Pro.

To be fair, if we hadn't seen the Hi-Grade we wouldn't question the high price of the Rock. But we have, and so it's difficult to recommend something this expensive when a near equivalent exists at a much lower price.

The Rock Xtreme CTX PRO is a powerful Laptop indeed and for those looking for a machine to take to LAN parties then look no further. Its just a pity that the Laptop is not the quietest and its battery life is terrible - but you won't be bothered about...
