3DConnexion SpaceNavigator Personal Edition

Quick, call Maxwell Smart. We've identified a KAOS plot aimed at destroying American worker productivity. Now thanks to 3DConnexion, that evil plot to have 90 percent of Americans flying all over the globe using Google Earth—instead of working — just...

Cheap, comes preconfigured for common multimedia apps, Google Earth

Not particularly useful for other apps; not programmable

That limitation is ultimately what really hurts the SpaceNavigator PE. While we appreciate the fact that this type of device cost $300 two years ago, a controller whose main commercial appeal is limited to Google Earth and a few other apps is of...

SpaceNavigator for Notebooks

This space-age mouse is more portable than its predecessor and gives professionals an easy way to navigate around 3D environments.

Sturdy build ; Smooth tilting/pulling controls ; Easy-to-use software works well with Google Earth and more

Too heavy for pockets ; Expensive

At At $129, the SpaceNavigator for Notebooks is an expensive peripheral, but if you’re a 3D professional—or even an enthusiast—you29, the SpaceNavigator for Notebooks is an expensive peripheral, but if you’re a 3D professional—or even an...

3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator for Notebooks

The SpaceNavigator for Notebooks is every bit as useful and intuitive with 3D applications as the original SpaceNavigator. But unless you need to lug a 3D mouse along on your daily commute, you should probably just stick with the cheaper desktop model.

Innovative design. Smooth movement. Simple software integration. Makes navigating Google Earth and Second Life a blast

Could be more travel-friendly. Pricey. Base needs to be steadier. For use in 3D applications only

Review: 3dconnexion SpaceNavigator for Notebooks

3dconnexion has come a long way since I reviewed their SpaceTraveler back in the beginning of 2006. While their flagship SpacePilot has remained pretty much the same, their line of lower-profile/portable 3D controllers is evolving. Right now they offer...

Review: SpaceNavigator for Notebooks

SpaceNavigator for Notebooks, a laptop mouse designed for 3-D navigation, lets you move horizontally, vertically, and in a third dimension of depth within your 3-D space.

The sturdy SpaceNavigator for Notebooks has a black 3-D controller knob with matte plastic sides that sits atop a metal base containing two mouse buttons. The bottom has a rubber ring to help prevent it from sliding. The device’s weight (8.9 ounces)...

SpaceNavigator for Notebooks Review

It is a pretty well known fact that the typical optical mouse can be a trying to work with in 3D environments. You just don't have that much flexibility to rotate items or pan smoothly. Especially when it comes to being on the road and you only have...

Simple to Install and use. Even this beginner was having fun 1 minute into it

Not very light to travel with. Will probably stay a industry mouse until more mainstream software becomes 3D based and is supported by 3DConnexion

This 3D mouse is perfect for those who work in 3D worlds. Autocad professionals, game developers, or those who are just 3D enthusiasts. There is a list of software compatible in Linux, Windows, and Mac for the SpaceNavigator here. Shortly Second Life...

3dconnexion SpaceNavigator for Notebooks

A lightweight input device for 3-D artists

Smaller and lighter than standard SpaceNavigator model

Standard version is better for most 3D artists

The SpaceNavigator for Notebooks is of limited appeal to most 3-D creatives — but if you're in its target market, you may find it invaluable.

3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator Standard review

Precision control for animation and 3D design

Solid construction ; Easy to use

Limited application ; No support for Adobe Creative Suite

It works well but limited support could be a deal-breaker

SpaceNavigator for Notebooks

SpaceNavigator for Notebooks is the latest version of 3D Connexion's excellent navigation tool for 3D applications. Although it's not much smaller than the original SpaceNavigator, this version is about 250g lighter, which when you're going to be...

Our only real complaint about this notebook version of the SpaceNavigator is its price. The slightly bigger and heavier version costs 39 if you opt for the Personal Edition (which comes without support), yet this version will set you back 106. That's a...
