Apple iPod Shuffle ( 2GB, gold)

For years, my iPod and I were inseparable. No longer tethered to my denim FUBU CD case/purse hybrid and bulky CD player, the sleek, pocket-size Apple MP3 player was the immediately lovable, magical music box I could bring with me anywhere I went.

The Apple iPod Shuffle is affordably priced with a compact design and long-lasting battery. It's both stylish and easily wearable, thanks to its sturdy built-in clip.

Requires a USB sync from a PC or Mac running iTunes. There's no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Only 2GB of storage. Navigating your music is a bit difficult without a screen. You can't download subscription Apple Music songs.

Apple's most affordable iPod is a cheap, workout-friendly option for listening to music or podcasts, but it shows its age with a reliance on iTunes syncing and lack of wireless support.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1GB MP3 Player Review - Intro

The iPod Shuffle is an interesting study in extremes. First of all, the device is extremely small: it's a shirt clip with a media control buttons and a wee Gigabyte for storage. Secondly, the Shuffle only has two settings: randomly play a song that...

Very, very, very small.; Good buttons ; Great frequency response, low noise, good overall. ; iTunes gives you some good options to further enhance your shuffling

No screen ; No screen ; Bad packed-in headphones, below average output power. ; As with all iPods, you can't just connect the device and use a file browser to drag & drop songs

You probably knew whether or not you wanted the Shuffle before reading this. It is what it is: a clip that shuffles through your music. Good for exercising? Yes. Good for a party? Yes. Good for a $50 media player? Maybe. Really, while the Shuffle is...

Apple iPod shuffle, second-generation 2GB

Apple iPod shuffle (2nd generation)

Very good sound quality. Extremely compact and sleek. Seamless integration with iTunes. Built-in clip. Sturdy aluminum casing. Inexpensive.

No screen. Doesn't work with iPod accessories that require a 30-pin dock connector. Charge/sync dock is bulky. No extra features.

The second-generation iPod shuffle is impressively small, and the built-in clip makes it ideal for working out, running, or just casual listening. Its lack of a screen or any extras like an FM tuner—or even support for many iPod accessories—is...

iPod shuffle 2nd Generation 1GB MP3 Player - Silver

The second-generation Apple miniplayer gets even smaller, and cuts its price by almost half.

Inexpensive, Stylish

Lacks LCD screen, Expensive

The bottom line: I like the small size and versatility of Apple's new iPod Shuffle. In view of the unit's modest dimensions, the lack of a screen seems less deplorable than with the original Shuffle

Apple iPod Shuffle second generation review: Apple iPod Shuffle second generation

Apple iPod Shuffle (second generation, 1GB)

The competitively priced iPod Shuffle has a dead-simple user interface with satisfying tactile controls, and its integrated belt clip provides a handy way to keep track of the player. The Shuffle is available in five, metallic colors, and the package...

The iPod Shuffle has no screen, so there's no way to navigate easily among artists, albums, or playlists. And it only offers so-so sound quality. The player might be too small for some users, and nonstandard USB syncing takes away from its plug-and-go...

If you like your music playback simple and your device nearly invisible, the second-generation iPod Shuffle will suit you well. But absentminded users should steer clear of this easy-to-misplace player.

The first-generation iPod shuffle, with its pack-of-gum shape, won over big numbers of people because of its tiny size, feather-light weight, ease of use, and low price. If you liked that model, you'll definitely be impressed by the second-generation...
