Onkyo TX-SR608 Receiver First Look

Well, if you haven't noticed the flood gates have opened. Manufacturers are falling all over themselves to get on the 3D bandwagon. TVs, Blu-ray players, and discs have all hit the market touting their 3D. No matter that there is very little true 3D...

Onkyo has long been known as a feature leader in the receiver department. They certainly are looking to maintain that reputation with the TX-SR608. While the feature-set is a bit different from other new offerings at the same price point, it definitely...

Onkyo TX-SR608 A/V Receiver

Many tributaries feed the mighty Mississippi. South of the Twin Cities, the Minnesota River gushes in. In Wisconsin, it is joined by the St. Croix River, the Black River, the La Crosse River, the Root River, and the Wisconsin River. Then come the Rock,...

All of the above might lead you to believe that the AVR can operate many of these options (biamp, height, width, back surround, zone two) at the same time. Although it has nine sets of speaker terminals, it only has seven amp channels. However, you can...

Onkyo TX-SR608

The Onkyo TX-SR608 is a great AV receiver that will enhance your audio and video entertainment. It's true that it is missing a few goodies, but overall it performs well and is well equipped to handle all your home theater needs. Onkyo is a company that...

This AV receiver has a higher signal-to-noise ratio than most of the competition

The Onkyo TX-SR608 isn't the most power efficient

This is a pretty square deal but for a few bucks more there is better.

Onkyo TX-SR608 review

Onkyo is first past the post with a 3D-capable AV receiver for the masses. Budget rivals beware

Big, fast and dynamic sound ; Good video scaling ; v1.4a HDMIs

No networking or USB ; No 7.1 analogue in/out

A great 3D capable AV receiver that the competition will have a hard time beating on price and features

Onkyo TX-SR608

The TX-SR608 is a wonderfully feature-rich AV receiver with a great price.

Faroudja video upscaling ; THX Select2 Plus ; Generous connectivity ; Well-built

No secondary HDMI output ; No digital audio output

The TX-SR608 is a wonderful AV receiver, packing in as many features as possible for a very alluring price. Any receiver that gives you six HDMI 1.4 inputs, myriad listening modes, video upscaling and THX Select2 Plus certification for under £450 is...

Onkyo TX-SR608 review

The entry-level Onkyo SR308 meets most people's needs and costs just £219. At almost double the price, the SR608 needs to offer quite a lot more.

Masses of inputs, HDMI upscaling and excellent sound quality make this receiver worth splashing out on

Missing Accessories and Remote

Look Nice. Box came from UPS without external damages. The box tape seemed to be from the manufacturer, but the accessory tray is empty, and the remote controller is also missing. Just a bare receiver

Great Reciever

Keep enough air flow around the unit and you will be happy. I currently have the unit in cabinet and it seems ok I do check it often to make sure it is not overheating, also I do not run the unit hard so it does not generate near as much heat as it could.

6 hdmi inputs (5 rear, 1 front), 100 watts per channel. 7.2 outputs. video up converting from all inputs to hdmi output

not really a con but unit does run hot. (what receiver doesn't). 2nd zone only runs on analog inputs. (also not really an issue since it is only two speakers, kinda annoying that you have to run more wires though)

Product Specifications

Sure, you can call it an "entry-level" A/V receiver. But when you witness the full potential of the TX-SR608, you'll know the level you're entering is far beyond the ordinary. For a start, you get HDMI 1.4 inputs for simple hook-up of all your high-definition sources. HDMI 1.4 also brings compatibility with the 3D video format, as well as an audio return channel from your display back to the receiver. Complementing HDMI on the input front, you have an analog RGB video input for connecting your PC, and a universal port for Onkyo peripherals. All video sources, regardless of resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. Audio processing incorporates quality Burr-Brown DACs, lossless Dolby and DTS codecs, and the expanded surround formats of Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and jitter-cleaning technology work to ensure extremely precise and faithful amplification. In recognition of the TX-SR608's outstanding A/V prowess, it has been awarded THX Select2 Plus certification.
