Sony STR-DH800 review

Is this budget-priced AV receiver a loss leader?

Superb value ; Big and smooth sound ; Easy to use

No video upscaling or multichannel inputs ; Could have a bit more sparkle

We think Sony has released this receiver at an extremely aggressive price point but haven't neglected to fill it with features. An absolute bargain!

Sony STR-DH800 review

If you're taking your first step on the AV ladder then the Sony STR-DH800 should definitely be on your hit-list

Decent design ; intuitive remote ; uncomplicated auto set-up ; great insight and weight for the money

It's difficult to grumble at this price

Sony STR-DH800

The manual is loaded with information and it should be read prior to starting the installation. There are buried menus throughout each selection. Fear not there is a master reset to get you out of trouble. I have no regrets I would buy this again.

Has tons of options and features. Very good channel separation and ability to compensate for large or small speakers

The HDMI connection would not work with the Comcast HD cable Box. My HDTV has two HDMI inputs so I had to connect the cable direct to the HDTV and use the analog audio cables for the audio to the receiver. This works but it is not as clean as it could...
