Logitech Harmony 720 review

Editor's Note (February 19, 2009): The rating on this product has been changed due to competitive changes in the marketplace. Readers interested in this product should compare it to the more recent Logitech Harmony One .

The Logitech Harmony 720 offers a slighter better color screen and a slimmer, sexier design than those of Harmony's original color-screen model, the 880. This model also includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and docking station, and like other...

The remote could sit a little more securely in its dock, the Web interface may intimidate nontechie users, and the painted text labels printed on the case under the transport control buttons may rub off with extended use.

The combination of a color screen, a battery charger dock, and a sleek design makes the Logitech Harmony 720 one of the company's best universal remotes to date.

Logitech Harmony 720 Universal Remote

Usage, Findings and Conclusion I have spent a good deal of time with the Harmony 720 lately and am very pleased with its performance and presentation in all aspects. Simple and easy to understand commands make programming the unit a breeze. For those...

Not all it's cracked up to be

Apparently I pressed the touch screen too hard and it cracked. Think about that: it's a touch screen, and you have to press it softly. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So now I can't read anything on my screen. What kind of shoddy material is...

Cheap screen/hardware; terrible customer service

Does everything I want it to

This is a fantastic remote if you don't do a lot of clicking or scrolling through on-screen guides (if you DO, the clicky buttons will probably bother you - it has page up/down buttons that are rubber and would be easier to use though). I have it...

Will control anything that uses an IR remote. Will learn IR commands not in Logitech's database. Software makes it easier to setup and make changes than traditional universal remotes. Has a charging stand. Color LCD screen. Uses one-touch activities to...

Buttons are small. Backlight is not very bright. All of the silver buttons are "clicky" and feel slightly cheap. Steeper learning curve if you want to get into customizing the remote

Best remote ever

This is my second Harmony remote, I got it for Christmas. It's all I wanted. My remote controls the following: Mitsubishi HDTV, Okny Reciever, Cable Box, Windows XP Media Center, PS2, Toshiba DVD/VCR player, Fijitsu Air Conditioning unit and changes...

Very easy to set up, took about a minute to transfer the settings from my old Harmony Remote to the new 720. Color screen with ability to change backgrounds to whatever you want as long as image is small, and a slideshow while on the charger. Can learn...

Does not fit in your hand as good as the 880. No RF, or Bluetooth control. Blue light around the Activity button is very bright, but adjustable. Rubber flap covering USB slot will not stay in it's place. Keeps falling out. Remote is long, kind of...

a universal remote to control your universe

the online database of devices blows me away. i've even looked up old devices i once had but have long since replaced. can't wait to upgrade my other devices so i can set up the remote to control them as well.

controls everything i need it to control ; when i upgraded my receiver, switching the remote from controlling one brand to another was seamless

It was easier using four remotes

Maybe I'm just not as smart as I thought I was. I'm a HUGE Logitech fan and I expected this remote to be easier to setup and smarter than it is. First of all, my Yamaha receiver wasn't properly supported. I actually had to do the whole "aim the remotes...

Looks nice, feels good in the hand, rechargeable

Difficult to setup, hard to align in charging stand. Find myself using the original remotes and buttons on the equipment too much still

So far... awesomeness

Got this on black friday and the 80 bucks was totally worth it!!!

Porperly controls and automates the actions of my Philips 720p flat panel, Motorola cable box, Sony dvd/vcr and Wexford electric fan with a push of a button

has trouble with my Panasonic CD/Tape/Radio from 1997 and mixes up my Philips tv with my Magnavox tube, computer software freezes ocasionally but neither is a huge issue for me

Just what I needed

There is a slight delay (hardly noticeable) when you click the volume button until your TV responds. This might be my TV but I am just mentioning it here. After a few minutes operating the remote it you don't even notice it.

I was skeptical about such devices but I thought I'd give it a try ; The only frustrating thing was waiting for the battery to fully charge before setting it up. After all we are all boys and we want our toys now! :) I occupied myself with something...
