Any flatbed scanner is technically suitable for all-purpose scanning, since you can scan anything on it. But some are clearly targeted more for some uses than others. A case in point is the Canon CanoScan 5600F ($149.99 direct), which focuses on ...
High-quality scans of both prints and film (slides and negatives). LED light source for reflective scans eliminates warm-up time
Scans only four slides or one strip of film at a time. Dust and scratch removal feature does little for scratches
Although it's a bit slow and comes with little software, the Canon CanoScan 5600F offers lots of value thanks to its high-quality scans and low price.

Doesn't scan film, Limited OCR features
The Canon CanoScan LiDE 200's main limitations are that it scans only reflective items (no film scans) and it can't do much in the way of OCR. We were able to create searchable PDFs and plain-text (.txt) files from various documents, but we couldn't ...
To keep the Canon CanoScan LiDE 200's cost down, however, Canon elected not...
The slim LiDE200 is the latest in Canon's successful series of compact and inexpensive CIS (contact image sensor) scanners. It has a maximum optical resolution of 4800x4800dpi, enough for photographic enlargements, photo editing and serious image ...
Scanning on a shoestring. Fast, cheap and light, a handy all round scanner.

It LOOKS nice and it's fast
The resolution in the specs (optical) is not available when put to use. I feel as if I had been decieved! This thing only goes up to 1200 dpi! This is garbage! I got this to replace an HP that DID do about 4800 dpi! You can' even trust specs anymore
dont forget to unlock the scanner
very light portable and fast
none
Unfortunately this is not the first time I've had Canon products, where the hardware was probably better than average, only to be sabotaged by brain-dead software [a slidescanner, a p/s digi cam, an inkjet printer, and now this scanner]. This is our 5th s...
Fast page scan time - 14secs at 200dpi A4 color ; one USB cable for comm and power
Unable to do the simplest things: give me an honest copy of the page on the scanner and dump the .bmp into a file. The software insisted on trying to color/contrast correct the image (even when using the driver directly and all corrections turned off) - I...
