IRISnotes 1 for Smartphones

Connecting to your Android or Blackberry smartphone by Bluetooth so you can send handwritten notes as email attachments is far from the only thing the IRISnotes 1 for Smartphones ($129) digital pen does. However, it's the pen's defining feature,...

Takes handwritten notes (as image files) without a computer. Connects via Bluetooth to Android and BlackBerry phones

Needs separate receiver unit along with pen

The defining feature of IRISnotes 1 for Smartphones is that you can connect to your smartphone by Bluetooth, write a note, and send the note by email.

IrisPen Executive

Besides glaring accuracy problems, the IrisPen Executive's troublesome software and out-of-date manual are tall barriers to overcome. This product needs an overhaul before it can work well for most users.

Scans many different fonts ; recognizes hand-printed numerals ; helpful text-to-speech integration

Unreliable software ; manual is out of date ; scan accuracy varies ; text must be small enough to fit within small scanning area ; difficult to align the sensor with text ; must be connected directly to Mac's USB port, not a USB hub

In practice, the IrisPen Executive is only useful if you are very, very obsessive about detail, have more patience than the average person, and simply will not (or cannot) retype anything. Otherwise, this little device is just too hard to use, and its...

IRISPen Executive

The IRISPen is a portable scanner and OCR software bundle that allows you to scan and recognise text on the move. It is a small device, which you plug into your PC and then run along lines of text. It transfers text directly to your system.

The IRISPen Executive is an expensive, niche tool, but if you need a handheld scanner then it's the most versatile option on the market.

Not a fan

Easy to install, however that's about it

No matter how careful I was to scroll over the text I wanted, I couldn't get this to scan properly. A good keyboard would be a better investment

Good unit but a few issues
