This item is in fact portable and powered by the computer so it is a simple design. Can't beat it for the money' Works very well.

Just what I needed

no problem with set up. Was worried about the calibration but info walked me thru. Great buy!Will be a real help with my embroidery work andpersonal family records. BUY IT.

Not as Mac compatible as they claim

Support was great to work with, but the driver to make it Mac compatible did not work well. It works, and the image is fine, but to have the quality I would like, the MB's are too big to upload to the program I use it for.
