Umax Astra 2200

Bargain-minded SOHO or corporate users who want to set up shop on the Web can't go wrong with the Astra 2200. The Web-worthy software bundle alone makes it worth the price.

Mac OSX users beware

I've had my Umax 2200 for a year or so, with no complaints (as long as you don't have problems. Umax customer support is poor.) Now that I'm on OSX, I went to their website to find drivers. I found none. Don't lose your install disk. You'll need to ...

Doesn't work with Windows 2000 or NT4 SP6

I've used this scanner with the SCSI interface with NT4 for a while. Had some frequent mechanical glitches with the scanner jamming and took it back for repair but in the end I worked out how to take it apart and fix it myself.

Good quality scans (when it worked)

No Windows 2000 Compatibility

The scanner doesn't work with Windows 2000. If you go to Umax's website, they have an updater that supposedly resolved problems of installing the Astra 2200 on a W2K machine using USB - http://www.umax.com/support/knowledge/solutionsSC.cfm?docs=SC00167...

Inexpensive, good scanning quality (color and resolution) USB & SCSI interface

One of the problems with consumer scanners is that what we save in price, we have to make up for in function. UMAX scanners are historically very nice consumer scanners, focusing on the quality of the scans more than other parts. I have used this...
