Panasonic DMP-BDT230 review

In 2012, the Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Blu-ray player won an Editor's Choice Award, and now with a couple of cosmetic changes and a few more features like Miracast , the BDT230 appears in its place.

The Panasonic DMP-BDT230 offers excellent Blu-ray and DVD image quality. Its selection of streaming services is good and it's a relatively inexpensive player.

Advertising is built in to several of the menus, including undefeatable video ads in the app marketplace. The menu system can be a little perplexing at first and it's easy to hit the Netflix button on the remote by accident. The YouTube app lags.

The Panasonic DMP-BDT230 is a mostly solid Blu-ray player, except it serves up obnoxious ads in its onscreen interface.

Panasonic DMP-BDT230

The Panasonic DMP-BDT230 Blu-ray player packs great performance and tons of features into an affordable package.

Lots of features. Fast performance. Inexpensive.

Sluggish, uninspiring menu system.

The Panasonic DMP-BDT230 is a speedy, great-performing Blu-ray player that's only hampered by a slightly awkward and sluggish menu system. More high-end (and much more expensive) Blu-ray players offer more options for complicated home theater systems....

Panasonic DMP-BDT230 Blu-ray Player

I'm unfortunately very disappointed in the Panasonic DMP-BDT230. Even if it had perfect playback and incredible streaming content, I'd still be hard pressed to recommend it based on the innovation of advertising that they have built in. Other vendors...

Panasonic DMP-BDT230 review

Awesome 2D, 3D and upscaling – and a Netflix shortcut – in a quirky yet speedy user interface

Excellent 2D & 3D images ; Great value price ; Rich colours ; SD Card slot ; Netflix shortcut button

Uses 2012 smart TV GUI ; No Lovefilm app ; Lacks MyHomeScreen ; No virtual remote apps

In the world of Blu-ray players you get what you pay for, and if you're after the very best in Full HD detail, Panasonic is definitely the brand to head for. In terms of picture quality from all sources, there are no better choices than the DMP-BDT230.

Panasonic DMP-BDT230

The Panasonic might not be the smartest player around, but it is one of the best-performing: great picture and accomplished sound

Excellent Blu-ray and DVD picture ; Solid, powerful sound ; Rich, natural colours

Lacks catch-up TV content

Panasonic DMP-BDT230

Effecive, faithful playback, Decent smart features, The price is right

Can be a bit noisy, Netflix app a bit slow

The prismatic styling of the BDT230 somewhat sets it apart, looks wise, from the competition but it is still, at heart, just another black box. Connectivity options should be sufficient for most with a single HDMI, digital audio out plus USB and Wi-Fi...

"Piece of crap"

Not even a year and a half old. Had to re-boot it often as it froze many times. This time it disconnected me from the internet and displayed "Wireless LAN adapter has been removed". On line help couldn't fix the problem after about an hour and a half....

"Avoid Panasonic"

First of all, ads?? On my DVD player?? Seriously?? Secondly, the box and marketing material clearly states that I can get Pandora. But there is no big disclaimer. If you want to use Pandora and almost all the other streaming content, you have to set up...

None, never got past the set up
