Samsung BD-P2500 Blu-ray Disc Player

The Samsung BD-P2500 outputs terrific images, but it's expensive and has a few shortcomings.

Great image quality ; Supports Netflix downloads, BD-Live

Slow at skipping chapters ; No DTS-HD support

Despite those lapses, the Samsung BD-P2500 is an excellent machine. You get what you pay for. In a Blu-ray player, a great-looking image can outweigh such shortcomings and a high price

Samsung BD-P2500 - Blu-ray disc player review: Samsung BD-P2500 - Blu-ray disc player

Samsung BD-P2500 - Blu-ray disc player

Excellent image quality on Blu-ray Discs; Profile 2.0 compliant; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, plus bit-stream output; Netflix streaming; 1GB onboard memory; 7.1 analog audio outputs.

PlayStation 3 may still offer a better value for some buyers; some disc compatibility issues; relatively slow loading times.

The Samsung BD-P2500 adds Netflix to an already well-featured and top-performing Blu-ray player, with only some minor disc compatibility issues giving us pause.

Samsung BD-P 2500

Excellent 24p HDTV picture., HD audio output as bitstream., DVD playback quality matches that of a top-rate DVD player., Analog 7.1-channel audio output.

No built-in DTS-HD decoder., No MP3 or JPEG support.

In terms of Blu-ray and DVD picture quality for the home-theater, the Samsung BD-P 2500 is one of the best players in its price class. Multimedia fans beware, however, that it does not support playback of MP3 or JPEG files.

When you start a film, a small quality indicator gives you an idea of what to expect. I saw the quality range from about two bars up to four (four being the highest). With two bars, the quality was pretty bad; it had obvious macroblocking and combing...

Samsung BD-P2500 Blu-ray Disc Player with NetflixReview

Can Samsung redeem some earlier missteps in Blu-ray technology with a new BD player that just about does it all? Note: review has been updated to include results of a firmware upgrade which adds DTS-HD decoding.

Samsung BD-P2500

Blu-ray DVD technology has been taking off recently and prices on the Blu-ray players have dramatically come down over the past year. If you're in the market to buy a new DVD player for your home entertainment setup you might want to take a look at...

Excellent image quality ; Plays Blu-ray and supports Profile 2.0 online content ; Netflix streaming ; Full set of connections to home theater equipment

Lacks DTS-HD Master Audio decoding ; Slow disc loading times

The on-screen menus are very nicely designed and are organized to be user friendly. On a side note, for such a high-end Blu-ray player, Samsung's logo when you first turn on the device is one of the worst logos ever seen. It's very jaggy and looks very...

Samsung's BD-P2500 ($499.99) is a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player; it supports both BonusView/picture-in-picture playback and BD-Live Web functionality. Its other noteworthy addition, compared with earlier Samsung Blu-ray players, is the use of Silicon...
