The Hero8 Black is a solid step forward for GoPro thanks to a new design with an integrated mount, improved user interface, and even better image stabilization. Plus, a new mod system will open up additional creative storytelling tools that take the...

GoPro Hero 8 Black review: Minor redesign, major pay-off

GoPro made something of a comeback with the Hero 7 Black, and the Hero 8 builds on that success. While the core camera remains the same, the whole user experience feels much more refined. Some users will be bummed their filters are no longer...

Practical new design ; Improved stability ; Easy to use while maintaining pro features

New design renders some accessories obsolete ; No onboard HDMI port ; Battery life remains “acceptable” ; Front-facing display only available with aftermarket accessory

GoPro Hero8 Black review: Have action cameras finally hit a wall?

While improvements like HyperSmooth 2.0 stabilization are truly impressive, the latest GoPro generation really only offers incremental upgrades – and that's looking like a trend we can count on in the foreseeable future.

GoPro Hero8 Black review

The GoPro Hero8 gets a sleek design makeover, and adds even-better motion stabilization.

Much-improved audio quality ; Intuitive user interface ; Sleeker accessory mounting system ; Media “Mods” add functionality

Battery door is awkward to close ; Lens is no longer removable ; Camera gets hot when shooting 4K

Is it worth it to upgrade from the Hero7? Probably not, especially if you have housings for the previous three generations or have a tendency to break lenses. But if you have the cash and want best in class performance, it’s the best action camera around.

GoPro Hero 8 Black review

Super-stabilized video footage make the all-new GoPro Hero 8 Black an action camera that is hard to beat

Superb image stabilization ; Built-in mount that folds away neatly ; Great video quality ; Plenty of modes

Rear screen could be bigger ; No selfie screen ; There are cheaper action cams! ; Lowlight performance could be better

The action camera market may now be a two-horse race since DJI launched the Osmo Action, but when it comes to stabilization, GoPro just took the lead with the Hero8 Black. What’s more, GoPro has innovated with its tried and tested design while still...

GoPro Hero8 Black Review

For the past few years, I've been a fan of GoPro's cameras, especially their HERO7 Black and this is no exception with their new HERO8 Black, despite a few issues. Design & Hardware On the outside, the HERO8 Black's design hasn't changed all that much...

Great 4K video and image quality with image stabilization ; HyperSmooth 2.0 works great ; Easy to use interface ; Waterproof without any extra housing ; Built-in mount for better versatility ; Solid and durable build ; Mod system could have some potential

Overall design getting slightly outdated, especially compared to competition with bigger screens ; Battery life hasn’t changed much (around an hour or so) and the device gets very warm when shooting in 4K ; The battery door design is awkward and makes...

Overall, the HERO8 Black is still a great camera but only makes slight adjustments to the design and camera software. If you’re in the market for a great all-around action camera, then the HERO8 Black is your best option.
