Panasonic HX-WA2Camcorder Review

Panasonic is bringing back the “pistol grip” style camcorder with its new waterproof HX-WA2 camcorder. The model is clearly reminiscent of the compact Sanyo Xacti camcorders, like the VPC-CS1 and the VPC-CG10, that hit the market a few years ago—and...

Panasonic HX-WA2First Impressions Review

Working from a similar pistol-grip design as the aging Sanyo HD2000, Panasonic's HX-WA2 gives the old girl a new paint job, a new sensor, and a layer of waterproofing, but retains the same shoddy construction and floaty controls as the original. Oddly,...

Panasonic HX-WA2

Panasonic brings back the “pistol grip” camcorder with its new waterproof model.

Waterproof up to 10 feet; Lots of recording options and still features

More expensive than the competition; Poor user interface and cheap button design

With its funky design, strange menu, and unique features, the Panasonic HX-WA2 deserves notice. It also deserves to have its story told, and anyone who remembers those Sanyo Xacti camcorders from a few years ago—the VPC-HD2000, VPC-CS1, and the...

Panasonic HX-WA2 Waterproof Camera Review

If you're looking for a small camcorder, with lots of features, that you can take with you next time someone tells you to go jump in the lake, then the HX-WA2 may be just what the mermaid ordered.

Waterproof to 9.8ft. (3m), 5x optical zoom, 2.6" articulating LCD display, Full HD recording in both 60i and 30p, Many features

Buttons seem flimsy, Some manual options are difficult to find and adjust accurately

Panasonic HX-WA3

A waterproof, dustproof and freezeproof camcorder that takes great footage

Commendable image quality ; Waterproof to 5m, dustproof and freezeproof ; Creative settings ; Non-optical image stabilisation

Fewer manual settings than mainstream Panasonic camcorders ; Zoom divided into two portions

As with the WA2, the waterproofing is excellent, and this is one area where the Panasonic HX-WA3 shows marked improvement. Thanks to the double-locking door covering the SD card slot, battery, micro USB and micro HDMI ports, the WA3 is even tougher...

Panasonic HX-WA2

A pocket-friendly camcorder with many features than a Flip for just a bit more money.

Many more features than pocket Internet camcorders, Optical zoom with 15x maximum iZoom, Waterproof to 3m

Zoom range split between W and T modes, Manual settings in full menu only, Electronic image stabiliser, not optical

Panasonic HX-WA2

Easy to operate. Waterproof enough for underwater adventures.

Electronic image stabilisation often produces twitchy footage. Pistol-grip style can be difficult to hold and keep steady.

As a dedicated underwater camcorder, the WA2 does its job well, but we can't help feeling that a little extra money spent on a regular waterproof camera will be a better investment.

Consumer review (productreview.com.au)

Very good camera. OK image quality, easy to use. Great value for money!

I have owned 2 gopro cameras and sold them as I was fed up with the poor build quality (wifi not working, always having to do firmware updates to get it to work, stupid mount screw heads that are super easy to lose especially in the snow!) and lack of...
