Flip Video Ultra review

At the time of this writing, the best selling camcorder at Amazon.com isn't a model from Sony, Canon, or Panasonic. It happens to be the Flip Video Ultra, the third iteration of Pure Digital Technologies' simple plug-and-play video camera that features...

With its Flip Ultra series, Pure Digital has upgraded the design, video quality, viewing LCD, and software of its lightweight video camera that makes it very easy to capture and share low-resolution video via e-mail and the Web; we also appreciated...

No SD/MMC card expansion slot; don't expect video quality to match that of a MiniDV camcorder's. The Muvee editing features only work with PCs, not Macs.

With improved video quality, a slightly trimmer design, and upgraded software package, the Flip Video Ultra is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the emerging low-end digital camcorder category.

Pure Digital Flip UltraHD Camcorder Review

After releasing an HD version of its Flip Mino camcorder late last year, Pure Digital has finally provided the same update to its larger Flip Ultra models. The Flip UltraHD, which features a new video compression engine, 8GB of internal flash memory,...

The Flip UltraHD (MSRP $199.99) provides the same easy user experience that is the standard of all Flip camcorders. Its lack of manual controls, menus, or special settings make it a very simple product to use and learn. The Flip UltraHD's improved...

Pure Digital Flip Ultra Camcorder Review

The Pure Digital's original Flip camcorder, released earlier this year, created an unusual amount of buzz by positioning itself well below the price point of traditional point-and-shoot camcorders. For the first time, a company truly succeeded in...

Pure Digital saw a gap in the camcorder market and filled it. The story of its success is no more or less complex than that. It saw two important trends: online video is becoming more prevalent; and devices capable of recording video can be...

Pure Digital Flip UltraHD Camcorder Review

Years and years ago, I remember when my dad bought our family's first camcorder. It was quite the premium product at the time, especially since we opted for the Sony Handycam. After taxes, an extra battery, and a couple of tapes, we racked up a bill of...

Other specs include Flip Video Engine 3.5, 30fps progressive scan, 9.0Mbps average bitrate, H.264 video compression, MP4 file format, automatic white balance, automatic exposure control, f/2.4 fixed focus, built-in speaker, tripod mount, and HDMI output.

Review: Pure Digital Flip Ultra HD

The headlining Flip camera gets HD and is better for the move.

HD video at a still-affordable price ; Good form factor; HDMI out is new ; Very user-friendly hardware and software ; Much more storage; longer recording than Mino HD ; Replaceable battery

No optical zoom; same image quality as before ; FlipShare is quick but still limited

Pure Digital Flip UltraHD

A significant improvement over last year's model, with HD support and easy websharing

Great low light sensitivity; Extremely simple to use

No manual controls whatsoever; Small attery and slow recharge rate

Pure Digital Flip UltraHD pocket camcorder

Pure Digital's UltraHD packs more punch than the Flip Mino HD

User-replaceable battery, HDMI, sharp image quality, good colour accuracy, 8GB internal storage

USB connector may be problematic for some systems

The Flip UltraHD is a better performer than the MinoHD and we prefer it, thanks to its doubled storage capacity, sharper-coloured footage, better zoom, user-replaceable battery and HDMI-out port.

Consumer review (cnet.com)

Disappointing and far more limited than the review says

Bought the 8GB/2-hour white flip video. The cnet editors -- and moreso the product -- disappointed me on this one. I knew I was buying a product that Cisco is no longer putting any effort into, but having read the reviews, I thought I'd give it a try....

Small, sleek-looking. 8 GB is great capacity. Easy to use. White is easy to find in a purse full of stuff (I'm really digging here).

Zoom feature is pretty pathetic. Front cover starting sliding off after second use. Shooting screen width/depth is completely inflexible.

Revolutionary camera

This package is incredibly easy to use. Great for web video, classroom use and the like. Software is limited, but it does what it needs to do and is fairly intuitive and does just about everything you'd want it to do. Sound is surprisingly good for...

Compact, easy to use, replacable AA batteries rather than rechargable. H.264 codec provides great image

No memory slot; when camera is full, you have to transfer your video to a computer before you can use it again. H.264 codec limits editing options to bundled software; can't use Windows Movie Maker anymore, like you could with 1st generation Flips

Flip is great for family films

Pros I bought the Flip at the last minute before my trip to a family wedding. It took awesome pictures inside at the wedding and outside at the picnic. It is easy to use, just turn it on and press the button. The Flip software makes it easy to download...
