HTC Desire 500 review: Here To Charm

Desire has long been the signature of the company's tier-2 lineup. With past offerings varying from capable midrangers all the way down to entry level, going for a smartphone bearing the Desire moniker has largely been a hit-or-miss affair.

Quad-band 2G and dual-band 3G support ; 4.3" 480 x 800 pixel TFT capacitive touchscreen with 217ppi ; Android OS v4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sense UI 5.0 ; Qualcomm MSM 8225Q Snapdragon 200: quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A5, 1 GB RAM, Adreno 203 GPU ; 8 MP...

WVGA screen resolution ; Not the most powerful of chipsets ; Disappointing stills and video, no Full HD video recording ; No active noise cancellation for voicecalls ; Poor video codec support out of the box ; Limited inbuilt storage, only 1GB...

You may not be able to tell going by the financial reports alone, but HTC has produced plenty of fine hardware in 2013. The company has consistently delivered well-built stylish smartphones with lots of character and the HTC Desire 500 is no exception.

Review HTC Desire 500 Smartphone

Plastic version. The Desire 500 has a 4.3-inch display, just like

Bright display; Price; Good main camera; Viewing angle stability

High black value; Energy consumption during standby; Battery runtime; No playback of Full HD movies

The performance of the main camera is surprisingly good. A negative surprise is certainly the high energy consumption during standby.

HTC Desire 500 Review

HTC indicated it wants to go down market with its Android phones, risking to be crowded out of the exploding mid- and entry-level segments otherwise, and phones like the Desire 500 are a good indication of its strategy. The handset sports a youthful,...

Good still photos ; Cool design ; Nice call quality

Uncomfortable physical keys ; Capacitive keys aren't backlit

The Desire 500 is a pretty good shot at the booming lower midrange market for HTC, fusing together an entry-level screen and processor, which, however, do their jobs fine, with some more upscale features like a good 8 MP camera and an eye-catching,...

HTC Desire 500

VIDEO REVIEW: A very capable mid-range Android smartphone with a Nexus 5 shaped problem

Nice, classy design, Bright and clear screen, Decent general performance

Camera slightly inconsistent, Battery life a little weak, Mediocre built-in speaker

HTC Desire 500 review

With a quad-core processor for this price, something's gotta give, right?

MicroSD support ; BlinkFeed ; Decent camera ; Quad-core

Poor internal storage ; Low res screen ; Screen doesn't sit flush ; No 4G

Worth a look if you're after a phone that you can fill with music and use to take the odd snap, but it falters heavily if you plan to watch a lot of movies or install any apps on the very limited storage. The Galaxy S3 Mini is better.

HTC Desire 500 pictures and hands-on: Sense 5.0 on the cheap - Pocket-lint

The HTC Desire 500 is pitched at the entry-level, bringing the latest look and feel of HTC Sense 5.0 at a more affordable price than the premium flagship

HTC Desire 500 review

The HTC Desire is one of the best looking smartphones available right now. Measuring it at 131.8 x 66.9 x 9.9mm, it's about the perfect size in terms of fitting your hand and weighing just 123g it's not a brick either.

The HTC Desire 500 is a great-looking device, with tons of unique software and solid mid-range smartphone specs on board. It's hard to find any real weaknesses with the phone, including its reasonable £199 price tag. To sum up, it's simply a very good...

HTC Desire 500 review

The Desire 500 has a similar front-end to the HTC One (M8) and a good camera, but battery life and performance are both poor

The camera is one of many things we like about the HTC Desire 500. It has a great display, it's slim, light and good-looking, and we like the Sense skin. However, it's pricey compared to the Moto G, its battery life is poor and performance is sluggish.
