Sony Xperia XZ2 review: Memorable looks, forgettable features

Sony's Xperia XZ2 has an elegant all-glass design and delivers outstanding performance. None of its unique features are very exciting, however, and with the Galaxy S9 being an attractive alternative, it's not a must-buy.

Glossy all-glass design ; Perfect performance ; Proficient but simple camera

Display can eat battery life ; Inconsequential unique features ; Awkward fingerprint reader placement ; The Galaxy S9 exists

The Xperia XZ2 has a number of desirable characteristics, but it's far from perfect. All that glass looks and feels beautiful, even if the fingerprint reader placement is a little off. The main camera takes pictures rich in detail and color. The HDR...

Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact hands-on review

Sony packs a lot of impressive tech into the Xperia XZ2 that makes it a promising competitor to the Galaxy S9.

Good performance, specs ; Solid, refreshed design ; Super-slow-motion in 1080p is unique ; Loud speakers ; Colorful display

Sony user interface feels cluttered ; Volume rocker is too high ; Dynamic Vibration System goal of immersion is unconvincing

Sony's latest flagship is great but not too great

The Xperia XZ2 is a good phone with a great camera, but there are better options out there.

The Sony Xperia XZ2's curved design makes it comfortable to hold, and its powerful speakers and cool vibration feature make games and videos feel larger than life. Being able to shoot 960fps slow motion in full HD is useful in the right moments. The...

The Xperia XZ2 has a dated look, despite Sony's redesign. Software features, such as 3D face scanning, aren't very useful. The placement of the fingerprint sensor makes it too easy to press the camera lens instead.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 is a solid phone, but we prefer the Huawei P20 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Sony Xperia XZ2

If you want to watch and record HDR video, the attractive Sony Xperia XZ2 might be just the phone for you.

Sleek design. HDR display. Fast Snapdragon 845 processor. Sharp camera with unique 3D scanning feature and 4K HDR recording.

Relatively low screen resolution. No headphone jack.

Sony gets a lot right with the Xperia XZ2. The design feels sleek and modern, it has solid multimedia capabilities, and it's no slouch in the power department. If you're drawn to its unique features like 4K HDR video recording, 3D scanning, and dynamic...

Sony Xperia XZ2 Smartphone Review

Everything in HDR. HDR is the key term for Sony's new high-end smartphone Xperia XZ2: The display supports HDR 10 and is able to upscale content to HDR, while the camera can record videos in HDR. Can this be seen as a real innovation? Have they done...

Oh, Sony... we want to praise your smartphones just because they are daring and you know how to present them well. But then we remember that you overlooked the trend for bezel-less smartphones and that you are now releasing a new phone that entirely...

Sony Xperia XZ2 review: A decent flagship housed in a questionable design

Our Sony Xperia XZ2 review takes a look at one of the newest smartphones from the company which boasts a new design and a new advanced Motion Eye camera.

Crisp, clear FHD+ display ; Solid sound ; Great camera in well lit situations ; Easy to remove SIM/microSD card tray ; Decent performance ; All day battery life ; Super slow motion video fun

Rounded glossy back slippery ; Easy to remove SIM/microSD card tray ; Still stuck on Android 8.0.0

Sony Xperia XZ2 Review

The XZ2 isn't just about looks. It's also a multimedia powerhouse equipped with powerful up-to-date hardware. But ultimately, is the Sony Xperia XZ2 as great of a phone as it seems on paper?

The Snapdragon 845 chip makes it a top performer ; The screen is bright and good-looking ; Excellent battery life with great stand-by times ; HDR videos look impressive in the right situation

Fingerprint scanner is awkwardly placed ; Phone is heavy and slippery ; No headphone jack ; Front camera is a downgrade vs Xperia XZ1 ; Does not work on Verizon or Sprint

Sony Xperia XZ2 review: New design struggles to deliver the flagship goods

Sony smartphones have sat just below the top tier for a while now, so the new Xperia XZ2 has a lot to prove. At £699 (inc. VAT) it's more affordable than the £730 Samsung Galaxy S9 , but is pipped by the Huawei P20 which is £100 less at £599 (the P20...

Good performance ; Dual SIM or one SIM plus a MicroSD ; 4K video capture and super slow-motion mode ; 18:9-format screen

Poor battery life ; Odd fingerprint scanner location ; Disappointing camera

Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium: Does This Smartphone live Up to Sony Camera Quality?

Can the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium beat its competitors?

Built in camera button on the side ; Really brings out the colours in photos even on dull days ; 5 axis image stabilisation

Lot's of sharpening on the photos ; Tracking is okay but does require you to tap on the subject when it loses it
