ZTE Open C (Unlocked)

The Firefox OS-powered ZTE Open C is a rare high-quality, sub-$100 smartphone, but Windows Phone and Android are right on its tail.

Inexpensive for an unlocked smartphone. Lack of apps less relevant because every website is an "app."

Very few good games. Mediocre call quality. Poor camera.

I'd be remiss not to mention that Firefox OS will probably get lots of upgrades quickly, as there are no carriers in the way. The OS has already gone from version 1.0 to 1.3 in less than a year. Camera and Media Audio and video recording and playback...

ZTE Open C review – $92 smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat

The ZTE Open C is ZTE's second smartphone designed specifically for Firefox OS. But the good news is that the device can also run Android 4.4.

Firefox OS vs Android: it's no fair fight

Cheap ; Respectable screen for price

Limited apps selection ; Quite buggy ; Poor camera ; Inconsistent performance

Firefox OS has been around for more than a year, but it still feels very wobbly in the ZTE Open C.

ZTE Open C review

Firefox OS touting bargain phone that falls short

Very cheap ; MicroSD slot ; Straightforward Firefox OS

Awful camera ; Sluggish performance ; Lack of apps

Budget hardware from ZTE and a fledgling OS from Firefox do not make for a great partnership. The price is right for this entry-level smartphone, but the camera is bad, general performance feels sluggish, and the platform lacks apps.

ZTE Open C review

It's super-cheap, but the Open C's terrible battery life, poor screen and sluggish OS make it a highly compromised handset

ZTE Open C Firefox Phone review

£60 is a bargain price for an unlocked smartphone, but before you get too carried away, the ZTE Open C isn't meant to be a rival to budget Android handsets.

The Open C is an unlocked smartphone which costs very little. Although it’s better than the original ZTE Open, performance isn’t great and the operating system makes the 4in screen appear to have even fewer pixels than it does. If you’re on a really...

ZTE Open C review

It's not every day we get to see a brand new operating system inthe mobile phone world. With BlackBerry recently gone, now we havea new system based on the Firefox browser. It's basic and cheap, aimed primarily at developing markets, but does it have...

More powerful processor than expected, very cheap

Basic screen and camera, limited apps in the Marketplace

The Firefox Open C isn't designed to set the tech world alight. But as a proof of concept it's certainly on the way. It's ultracheap of course, with a deliberately low spec. But it works wellenough, offers and alternative to the big boys and there's...
