Canon PowerShot N Review

Canon had a good opportunity to create something fun, but misses the mark by a long shot.

With smartphones taking over on the low-end point-and-shoot segment, we have always said that camera makers need to come up with something attractive or exit the business. The PowerShot N is a good attempt toward the right road, but in the wrong...

Canon PowerShot N

The Canon PowerShot N packs a neat Creative Shot mode, but it doesn't let you select your favorite filters and its design makes it a frustrating camera with which to shoot.

Sharp lens. Excellent high ISO performance. Wi-Fi. Instagram-like image filters. Touch screen display.

Difficult to hold and operate. Few physical controls. In-camera charging only. Limited manual filter capability. Weak flash.

If you aren't near Wi-Fi but would still like to get a photo online, you can transfer photos directly to your iOS or Android device. Just download the free Canon Camera Window app from the iTunes store or Google Play store. The camera can set up a peer...

Canon's PowerShot N is a pocket-size smartphone companion

Here's a pocket camera that doesn't necessarily beat smartphones, but joins them.

The ; is a fresh take on a simple point-and-shoot, cramming a lot of camera into the smallest space possible without being completely unusable. It has a handy tilting touch screen, built-in Wi-Fi for on-the-go sharing, and a couple of innovative...

The camera's controls and size might make it difficult to use for some. It doesn't do much beyond automatic snapshots. Battery life is relatively short, and the flash is weak.

If you can get past the supercompact design and reimagined controls, the Canon PowerShot N is a fine point-and-shoot companion for your smartphone.

Canon PowerShot N ( White)

Basically, Canon took one of its PowerShot Elph cameras and lopped off the sides, leaving nothing but a lens and screen. In the 1.2-inch body between the 8x f3.0-5.9 28-224mm lens and 2.8-inch tilting touch screen are a 12-megapixel...

Canon PowerShot N Review

While it's nice to see Canon take a chance with the PowerShot N's interesting camera design, the manufacturer seems to have missed the mark with this model. With its touch screen LCD, built-in Wi-Fi, and lack of control buttons, it needed a redesigned...

Interesting design gives the N a unique look ; Image quality is better than many point-n-shoots ; Response times are fast versus other beginner-level models ; Touch screen LCD is very responsive ; Can record images by touching the screen ; LCD screen...

Price is too high ; Images aren't sharp enough for creating large prints ; Camera's operational design is awkward ; Zoom ring design just doesn't work well for advancing 8x optical zoom ; Shutter ring is too close to the camera body and too thin to use...

Canon Powershot N Review

The PowerShot N camera is Canon's answer to the growing threat of smartphones. With an innovative square design, tilting touch screen and zoom and shoot operation lens rings, the Canon PowerShot N is quite unlike any other compact camera on the market....

The Canon PowerShot N is a brave attempt to try and stem the tide of the all-conquering smartphone, but ultimately it doesn't deliver on some of the key elements that smartphone users expect, namely easy connectivity and sharing, self-portrait...

Canon N

One look at the unusual, square-shaped Canon PowerShot N -- its front panel dominated by an image-stabilized 8x optical zoom lens -- is enough to tell you it's different from the average camera. Were it not for the strap lugs jutting from either side,...

Nifty, albeit unusual, square-shaped design and solid build, Very compact and pocketable, 12.1-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor delivers higher resolution images than most smartphone cameras, 8x optical zoom lens with a 35mm-equivalent 28-224mm reach,...
