The X-A1 camera sports classic styling and a feature set more geared to enthusiasts and pros than the happy-snappy brigade.

Swift and accurate auto focus ; Plenty of effects and Fuji’s Film Simulation modes ; Tilting LCD

A larger handgrip would have been useful ; Longer lenses make the camera front heavy ; No eye level viewfinder built in

If you’ve been seduced by the premium look and feel of previous Fujifilm X cameras but haven’t been able to justify the expense until now, the X-A1 is a great value-added place to start.

Fujifilm X-A1

The Fujifilm X-A1 is the least expensive X-series camera that Fuji sells;while it doesn't feature the company's unique X-Trans image sensor, it's still a solid performer.

Excellent image quality. 5.5fps shooting. Retro design. Sharp kit lens. Built-in flash. Tilting 921k-dot rear display. Built-in Wi-Fi.

No EVF option. Noticeable shutter lag. A bit slow to turn on. Lacks mic input. Noticeable rolling shutter in video.

Like the X-M1, the X-A1 has integrated support for Wi-Fi. The very basic implementation allows you to transfer JPG images to your iOS or Android device. You'll just need the free Fujifilm Photo Receiver app or the Fujifilm Camera App from your device's...

Fujifilm X-A1: The X-M1, but cheaper

For its entry-level ILC, Fujifilm swaps out the X-Trans sensor and gives the camera a less snazzy finish.

Fujifilm X-A1

The Wi-Fi-enabled X-A1 offers a sweet deal - an APS-C sensor that delivers very high image quality and low noise at very high ISO settings. You also get lots of fine-tuning tweaks in the menus, and various manual controls. But if fast action...

APS-C CMOS sensor ; High image quality ; Excellent low-light image performance ; Fast burst mode (JPEG and RAW) ; Two thumb dials ; High-resolution LCD (921k dots) ; LCD folds up/down 90 degrees ; Small, lightweight body ; Attractive color effects ;...

Contrast-detection auto focus is slow ; Auto focus locks at first frame in burst mode ; No optical viewfinder ; LCD does not swivel horizontally ; Lens selection is limited ; No aperture ring on kit lens ; Menu navigation can be clunky

Fujifilm X-A1 Review

The Fujifilm X-A1 is a new entry-level compact system camera. At the heart of the X-A1 is an APS-C CMOS sensor, rather than the “X-Trans” CMOS sensor used on the more expensive X-M1, X-E1 and X-Pro1 cameras. The X-A1 has a 920K dot tiltable 3-inch LCD...

Fujifilm X-A1

Fuji's new entry-level looks lavish and feels flimsy.

When we reviewed the X-M1, we concluded that it was a camera with an excellent sensor in a chintzy body. The X-A1 keeps the same cheap suit, drops in a marginally inferior sensor, and charges you $200 less. Is that a good thing? It depends on what...
