X-Transformed? Fujifilm X30 Review

The X30 is the latest iteration of Fujifilm's line of premium compact cameras. Featuring a 12MP X-Trans sensor coupled with a 28-112mm equivalent fast zoom, the X30 is a capable camera, made more enjoyable compared to its predecessors by the addition...

There is definitely still a clear place in the market for cameras like the Fujifilm X30 – not just as a sole suits-most-needs camera for a holiday shooter, but also as a smaller, lighter option for an enthusiast DSLR owner in dress-down moments. It...

Fujifilm X30

The Fujifilm X30 has a great EVF and Classic Chrome film simulation, but some will miss the X20's optical viewfinder.

Classic Chrome film simulation. Bright, manual zoom lens. Excellent EVF. Great control layout. Tilting rear display. 11.8fps burst shooting. Wi-Fi.

Lacks 24mm wide-angle coverage. Occasional lens flare. Omits optical finder found in X20. 12-megapixel 2/3-inch image sensor is showing its age. Video quality could be better. External battery charger not included.

The app also has a geotagging function, but it's not that well designed. It can add location information to photos, but it only does so for ones that were captured in the past few minutes. Canon has a similar feature in its CameraWindow app, but it...

While Fujifilm hasn't changed much about the inside of the X20, its successor does gain some nice features.

Fujifilm X30 Review

Remaining largely the same under-the-hood compared to its X20 predecessor, the Fujifilm X30 brings most of its improvements to the exterior: an EVF over the flawed optical viewfinder, a larger, higher-res tilting LCD screen, updated styling and...

Excellent image quality for its class; Very good optical performance from the bright f/2-2.8 4x lens; Quick autofocus, even in very low light; Fast burst modes; EVF fixes the flaws of optical viewfinder in X20; Tilting high-res LCD screen; Excellent...

Top shutter speed is only 1/1000s when lens is wide open; No built-in ND filter; 28mm eq. may not be wide enough for some; Shallow buffer depths; Default NR processing a bit heavy-handed

Fujifilm X30 Review: Sharp But Struggles in Low Light

Like a handsome but absent-minded boyfriend, the good-looking Fujifilm X30 has too many quirks to be a dependable companion. Although the camera did produce bright, sharp pictures and videos under the right conditions, its crowded controls,...

Bright and sharp pictures in bright light ; Handsome design

Slow autofocus in low light ; Frustrating interface ; Oversensitive LCD shutoff sensor

Fujifilm's X30 is a solid bridge camera that delivers high-quality pictures, but it suffers from iffy Wi-Fi and problematic autofocus.
