Fujifilm's stylish XF1 an enthusiast compact for auto snapshooters

The XF1 is a nice combination of style and performance, but might not offer enough control, features, and photo quality for demanding users.

The ; looks great and can be a lot of fun to shoot. It has a fast f1.8 maximum aperture and captures in raw and raw plus JPEG. It also has a healthy selection of shooting options and a good control layout.

Some of its best photos come at the cost of control and resolution. The lens gets much slower when zoomed in. There's no option to add an external flash or viewfinder.

The Fujifilm XF1 is one of the nicest-looking point-and-shoots available and it performs well, too. But its photos and features might not please some enthusiasts.

Fujifilm XF1 ( Brown)

The smallest of Fujifilm's X-series compacts, the XF1 is certainly styled to appeal to enthusiasts, with things like a fast f1.8 maximum aperture, raw capture, and semimanual and manual shooting modes. However, it's really a better fit for those who...

Fujifilm XF1

The Fujifilm XF1 is a neat retro-look compact camera with sharp optics, but its light-gathering capability diminishes as you zoom.

Retro styling. Sharp lens. Wide aperture at 25mm. Manual zoom lens. Collapsible lens design. Low image noise. Raw support.

Expensive. Small aperture when zoomed in. Limited zoom range. No viewfinder or hot shoe. Loud focus.

You can't add an EVF like you can with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7. There's no hot shoe, so you can't add an external flash. If you're looking for a similar camera with more expansion options, consider the Canon PowerShot G15 or another X-series...

Fujifilm XF1 hands-on preview

The enthusiast compact sector has undergone a distinct revival in recent years, with every major manufacturer now producing a model or two that offers full manual control and RAW format recording, aimed as a second camera for enthusiasts who usually...

When a camera a self-consciously stylish as the XF1 appears, it's tempting to dismiss it immediately as likely to be all style, no substance. But as Fujifilm has shown recently with the likes of the X100, it's entirely possible to build a good-looking...

FujiFilm FinePix XF1 Review

Some photographers like to have a camera that turns heads because of its interesting look or because of a unique operational feature. The Fujifilm XF1 fixed-lens camera offers both. Some people will enjoy the stylish, retro look of the XF1, with its...

Camera is pricey for a fixed-lens model ; Odd sequence for turning on the camera may frustrate some users ; Start up takes a bit too long ; Too easy to power down the camera while simply adjusting the manual zoom lens ; Although ISO up to 12,800 is...

Fujifilm XF1 Review

The Fujifilm XF1 is an advanced compact camera that offers a retro design, 12 megapixel 2/3-inch EXR CMOS sensor, a 4x, 25-100mm, f/1.8-4.9 zoom lens with a manual zoom ring, 1080p movie recording, 7fps burst shooting and a 3-inch LCD monitor with a...

The Fujifilm XF1 offers a similar retro feel, solid build and excellent image quality as its bigger X-series relatives at a cheaper price, but some of the features are less well-realised with style often winning out over substance. The XF1 is clearly...

The Fuji XF1 is the James Bond of enthusiast pocket cameras -- sleek, retro-styled (but somehow still eminently modern) and even a little dangerous looking. Like the classic Walther PPK, it's not a bad little shooter either, providing a bright f/1.8...
