Samsung Digimax L74 Wide review

When you think about camera lenses, "zoom" is probably the first word that comes to mind. Lots of camera manufacturers focus on giving their cameras the longest zoom lenses available, but while 5x, 10x, and 12x lenses are all handy for getting up close...

Wide lens; large screen; World Tour Guide is a fun if not terribly useful feature.

Slow performance; noisy, fringe-filled photos; touch screen interface is a pain.

A wide lens and nifty tour guide feature simply can't redeem the Samsung L74 Wide from its poor image quality, slow shooting, and irritating interface.

The Samsung L74 Wide has a seven megapixel CCD imager coupled to a Samsung NV-branded 3.6x optical zoom lens with a useful 28mm wide angle. At wide angle the lens is reasonably bright at f/2.8, although as you reach the 100mm telephoto the maximum...

Camera Test: Samsung L74 Wide

The gunmetal grey Samsung L74 Wide (street, $240) is a slim 7.2-megapixel digital camera with a true wide angle 28-101mm f/2.8-5.6 (35 mm equivalent) lens, cool styling, and an easy-to-operate touchscreen interface. Throw in some fun extras and an...

Samsung L74 Wide

Other features on the L74W include a 7.2 Megapixel CCD, manual controls, face detection AF/AE, and in-camera redeye reduction

Stylish, very well built body ; Wide-angle lens starts at 28mm ; Huge, 3-inch touchscreen LCD display ; Advanced Shake Reduction works fairly well, though slows down shot-to-shot speeds ; AF-assist lamp; good low light focusing ; Very little redeye;...

Images are soft and fuzzy; some overexposure and blown highlights ; Poor white balance in mixed lighting ; Touchscreen user interface can be slow and frustrating to use ; LCD difficult to see outdoors ; No optical viewfinder ; Unimpressive continuous...

The Samsung L74 Wide is a camera that packs a lot of features into a stylish, well-built body. Unfortunately, its image quality is lacking, so I'd only recommend it if you're sticking to smaller prints. Let's hope that next time around Samsung sticks...

Samsung L74W Review

If you've never used a touch-screen digital camera before, it's definitely a different sort of experience than your typical digital camera.

Quality construction ; Stylish design ; Easy to operate controls ; Touch screen worked well

Average image quality ; Mediocre battery life ; Gimmicky World Tour Guide

If you really want a touch screen camera, this is one of three models that I can think of (the other two being the Pentax Optio T30 and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2).  If you're concerned about image quality (instead of having a touch screen), then there...

Nikon's CoolPix S52 is a decent and quite stylish digital camera. It looks great and takes fairly good photos, although they have some noise issues and the camera's performance is painfully slow at times.

Minimal chromatic aberration, stylish design

Extremely slow at times, pictures somewhat grainy

Can a touchscreen add somn iPhone class to Samsung's latest?

Easy to use

Slow and fussy ; Overloaded with gimmicks

Touch-sensitive cameras are a great idea, but their time hasn't quite yet come

A wide lens and nifty tour guide feature simply can't redeem the Samsung L74W from its poor image quality, slow shooting, and irritating interface.

Wide lens ; Large screen ; World Tour Guide is a fun if not terribly useful feature

Slow performance ; Noisy, fringe-filled photos ; Touch screen interface is a pain

Though its wide lens and World Tour Guide are very useful features, the Samsung L74W simply has too many flaws to ignore. An irritating touch screen interface, painfully slow performance, and noise-filled photos make this a camera we simply can't...
