Sony Alpha DSLR-A380

In January last year Sony was one of the first manufacturers to 'diversify' its entry level DSLR offerings when it replaced the DSLR-A100 with not one but three new cameras - the DSLR-A200, A300 and A350. Now, one and a half years later, the product...

Compact camera upgraders looking for a simple DSLR

More serious photographers or for use in low light

Aside from its unique high-speed live view mode the Alpha 380 simply can't compete with the best of its peers in this fiercely competitive sector. Handling isn't great, nor is low light performance, and unless you find one very cheap indeed, it's best...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A380 review: Sony Alpha DSLR-A380

Sony Alpha DSLR-A380

Capable of shooting some very nice photos; fast Live View AF and single-shot performance; tiltable LCD; dual card slots; relatively simple, straightforward operation; built-in wireless flash and image stabilization.

Smallish grip; middling viewfinder; color shifts with default settings.

While the Sony Alpha DSLR-A380 is a solid inexpensive dSLR with a few nice features that will probably satisfy many shooters, it doesn't deliver quite enough on any front to outshine competitors.

Sony A380 DSLR

If you're in the market for an entry-level DSLR that's a cut above the average, the Sony Alpha 380 makes an excellent choice. The high resolution sensor, excellent optics of the included kit lens, and in-camera image stabilization add up to a good...

Sony Alpha 380 review

One year after the introduction of the DSLR-A350, the time has come for a successor; the Sony Alpha 380. It brings us to the next generation of Alpha Digital SLR cameras aiming at the entry-level market, which is also the market where the large numbers...

To introduce the Sony DSLR-A380 as the successor of the Alpha 350 is definitely a logical step. Although the 'spec driven' fans were rather disappointed upon getting hold of the technical specifications, it's not fair to take it out on the Sony A380....

Sony A380 Review

The Sony A380 is a new 14 megapixel DSLR camera featuring a restyled design and user interface to make it easier to use. Replacing the A350 model, the A380 retains all of its predecessor's key features, with a 2.7 inch tilting LCD screen, Live View,...

OK, so while a resolution of 14.2 million effective pixels for a consumer level DSLR aiming for a mass-market family audience looks a bit like overkill, that level of spec in part justifies the Sony A380's £720 price tag. And set against the asking...

Camera Test: Sony Alpha 380

Facing tough competition from 12- to 15-megapixel DSLRs from Canon and Nikon, Sony's new 14.2MP Alpha 380 ($850, street, with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM lens) comes up somewhat short

Review: Sony Alpha A380 review

SLR newcomers who are easily intimidated when trying to use a camera more complicated than a point-and-shoot may find the Alpha A380 a lot easier to use than other SLRs.

The A380 is a fairly compact SLR that is easy to use and feature packed. Chunky controls, well-labeled buttons, and a comfortably lightweight body ensure that the A380 will appear less threatening to anyone picking up a SLR for the first time. However,...

Sony Alpha 380 Digital Camera Review

The 14.2-megapixel tilt-screen Alpha 380 is the new and improved version of Sony's a350 DSLR which, being originally released onto the market in January of 2008, was due for a minor upgrade given that in DSLR terms anything 18-months and beyond is...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A380

Sony's Alpha DSLR-A380 is the company's latest upper-entry-level DSLR. Announced in May 2009, it's the successor to the Alpha A350, and inherits many features from this earlier model including the same 14.2 Megapixel CCD sensor, built-in image...

More noise than rivals at high ISOs ; Slow continuous shooting ; No movie mode ; Body shape may not be to all tastes

When Sony announced the Alpha A380 (and its lower-end counterparts the A330 and A230), it wasn’t hard to understand why many enthusiasts were disappointed. Most have become accustomed to new cameras featuring more powerful specifications such as higher...
