Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (Body Only) review: Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (Body Only)

Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (Body Only)

High resolution; in-body image stabilization; nice viewfinder; great accessory system.

Can't lock focus-point selector; Intelligent Preview button much too easy to hit accidentally; some subpar aspects of performance; no Live View; loud mirror.

A good first try at a pro-level camera, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 has the high resolution but unfortunately lacks some of the performance and usability you expect from a model in its price range.

Sony Alpha A900

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 is a powerful digital SLR camera aimed squarely at professionals and enthusiasts who covet a full-frame sensor--and who can afford the investment. This camera costs $3000 for the body only, and $5250 with a 24mm-to-70mm f/2.8...

Easy to use, accurate, and solid ; In-camera stabilization really works

Noise reduction softens images ; A bit pricey for new Sony buyers

A high-quality, respectable member of its class, but noise handled poorly above ISO 800

Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 Review

In the cut-throat digital camera market it's increasingly unusual for products to be shown in prototype form or announced more than a matter of weeks before they hit the stores. There's several reasons for the manufacturers' habit of playing their...

Class-leading resolutionv (as long as your lenses are good enough) incredibly solid build quality, environmental sealing Intuitive operation and uncluttered control and menu system Excellent out of camera JPEG results with superb tonality, dynamic...

Noise reduction settings applied to raw as well as JPEG files - cannot be 'turned off for raw but left on for JPEGs' (as is normal practice) Relatively high levels of noise at anything over ISO 400 (ISO 6400 is of very, very limited use) Destructive...

The Alpha 900 represents in a nutshell the almost schizophrenic nature of Sony's digital camera division, which can market compact cameras with smile detection and a Playstation style user interface at the same time as this, perhaps the most...

Review: Sony Alpha A900 DSLR

Sony came out swinging for the fences with the introduction of its “flagship” DSLR, the A900. Billed as a prosumer digi-snapper, but packed with a...

Bright, vivid and spacious viewfinder. Excellent in-camera image stabilization system. Easy no-menu adjustments with Fn button and multi-selector toggle. Killer price for the highest resolution, high functioning, easy to use DSLR

Focus points not big and bright enough in brightly lit situations. No latch for memory card cover. Pointless postage stamp sized LCD on top of the body. No continuous ISO in viewfinder. Power switch on left side of body

Sony Alpha 900 review

We all know Sony as the huge electronics giant, active in the world of photography for many years now. If you have been around for a while, you probably remember the Mavica digital cameras. Large and bulky, however, the way of storing was very...

Sony showed the world that it is possible to bring out an entire line-up of digital SLR cameras in a short period of time and at an immense speed. And not only that, it puts Sony ahead of the competition with certain techniques that the rivals aren't...

Sony A900 Review

Upon taking the Sony A900 in your hands for the first time, you immediately notice how well built it is, and how the large, carefully sculpted grip fits your hand like a glove. Weighing in at just under 930 grams with a battery and 850 grams without...

Does this mean that the A900 is the perfect camera then? Of course not there is no such thing as a perfect camera. The auto-focus system, while capable, leaves a lot to be desired. The AF points need to be arranged more sensibly, and all of them need...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 Digital Camera - Full Review - The Imaging Resource!

The Sony A900 has to rank among the most anticipated digital SLRs in recent memory. The company first showed an early version of its upcoming flagship design at the Photo Marketing Association tradeshow in the spring of 2007, and at the following...

Extraordinary resolution, nothing touches it at its price point ; Built-in SteadyShot image stabilization ; Surprisingly fast, given the amount of data the camera is pushing around ; Good color rendering: Natural without seeming flat ; A lot of nice...

Some image noise even at ISO 200 ; At anything above ISO 200, noise limits maximum print size before resolution becomes an issue ; High-ISO performance doesn't match that of Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III (Which is also 2.6x as expensive though) ; Dynamic...

The sensor is mounted on a moving platter that allows for in-camera image stabilization, branded as SteadyShot Inside. That's another world's first for a full-frame digital SLR, and it's no mean feat when you consider that the sensor shift mechanism...

Sony A99 II DSLR Review

The Sony A99 II proves that Sony's A-mount system is still alive. The new camera offers very high resolution (42MP), a brand-new focusing system that combines the best of SLR and mirrorless technology, very high frame rates in continuous shot modes,...

Sony Alpha A900

The Sony A900 (also known as the Alpha 900) is the company's effort to compete in the high-end digital camera world largely ruled by Canon and Nikon. It goes head-to-head with the Canon 5D Mark II and Nikon D700 in the rarefied full-frame-sensor, $3000...

The Sony A900 is slightly wider, deeper and shorter than the other two Canon and Nikon, with a weight that falls between the two. Size is important in this category, since you're carrying a lot of camera, at over 3 pounds including the lens. We found...
