Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V is the midrange model in Sony's trio of GPS-equipped travel zoom cameras. All three cameras - the HX10V ($330), HX20V ($370), and HX30V ($390) - all use the same 18.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor. The differences are simple: the...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V is a very good travel zoom camera that offers a great selection of auto modes, some very useful bells and whistles, limited manual controls, blazing performance, and 1080/60p video recording. If you're not 'pixel peeping'...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V

With its Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V, Sony packs a long 20x zoom lens and GPS into one decidedly svelte camera. It's one of the more expensive compact superzoom models you'll find, but all those features along with high performance warrant the price.

Sharp images. Good high ISO performance. GPS. Long zoom range. Shoots stills while recording video.

Expensive.

Performance and Conclusions The HX20V is one of the faster compact superzooms that we've tested. It starts and shoots in about 1.5 seconds and delivers a shutter lag that is very close to zero, which is a boon for candid and action photography. The...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V is a feature-packed travel-zoom camera that sits at the top of the Cyber-shot range. Offering a 20x, 25-500mm zoom lens, 18.2 megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and built-in GPS tracking complete with a...

The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX20V is a more capable and more refined version of our favourite travel-zoom camera from 2011, the HX9V, with a longer lens, higher resolution and extra features helping to maintain Sony's lead over the competition in this...

Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V

($390) -- all use the same 18.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor. The differences are simple: the HX10V has a 16X zoom lens, while the other two models have a 20X lens. The HX30V earns its flagship status by offering Wi-Fi support

Good photo quality for target audience ; Packs a 20X zoom lens into a compact body ; Optical image stabilization, with 3-way "active mode" for movies ; Super-sharp 3-inch LCD display ; Very snappy performance, especially autofocus ; Good set of manual...

Lots of detail smudging, even at ISO 100 ; Tends to underexpose; highlight clipping can be an issue at times ; Redeye a problem, though it can be removed in playback mode ; Only two apertures to choose from at any one time; no shutter or aperture...

Overall, I enjoyed using the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V, and had the same response to it as I did to their HX200V super zoom. It's a responsive, fun-to-use camera with some genuinely useful extra features (HDR, Anti Motion Blur, Sweep Panorama), a...

Sony Cyber-shot HX20V Review

The Sony Cyber-shot HX20V is a significant upgrade to the current favorite, the HX9V. The HX20V comes packed with an 18MP BSI sensor, a 20x optical zoom and an onboard GPS chip. The upgraded sensor has also allowed Sony to expand the ISO capabilities...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V

The HX20V is Sony's midrange travel zoom camera, and comes with the same lens and essentially the same feature set as the more expensive HX30V. A 20x zoom fits in a pretty small body that, with its 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, should perform well in low...

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX20V Review

First there was the HX5V, then HX9V … now the HX20V. So we've gone from a 10x zoom camera to a 15x, and finally a 20x zoom compact digicam.

I happily use the earlier HX5V as an everyday camera, for holidays and occasionally for shots of review cameras. A good all-rounder but, if I had known of the progression Sony planned — 10x to 15x to 20x — maybe I would have waited for the 20 timer....

Sony Cyber-shot HX20V

If you're looking for a feature-rich travel compact then this 20x model from Sony is well worth a closer look.

Huge zoom range offers plenty of flexibility, Plenty of useful shooting modes and features, Good image quality - especially at lower ISO settings, Stylish and well-built

Menu navigation can take a bit of getting used to, AVCHD video options may confuse some users
