Sony Cyber Shot P review: Sony Cyber Shot P

Intro This 5-megapixel, 3X optical zoom member of Sony's Cyber Shot budget line is, aside from its larger sensor, a clone of the 4-megapixel DSC-P73 and costs just a few dollars more. Snapshooters who want ease of use plus basic manual controls will...

Compact and portable; solid mix of snapshooting basic and manual features; accepts accessory lenses; captures 30fps VGA movies.

Manual aperture limited to two settings; tiny screen with tinier icons and text; weak photo quality.

This snapshot camera delivers a bit more than the basics but offers merely adequate photo quality.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P150

While the P150 is a good camera (especially for the price), it doesn't quite measure up to the 7MP competition.

Small, stylish, and very speedy; takes crisp pictures; very good battery life; rich feature set.

Low resolution for a 7MP camera. Some purple fringing in flash shots. Images can show some graininess in shadows. LCD feels small for the money.

Sony Cybershot DSC-P150 Digital Camera Camera

Sony's new DSC-P150 has a powerful, 7-megapixel CCD--a resolution more often found on advanced cameras. The extra resolution may not give you better pictures if you usually print 5-by-7-inch or 4-by-6-inch prints, but it's a boon for making...

The software accompanying the camera is pretty basic, so you'll want to expand your options with a good photo-editing package, like Adobe Photoshop Elements 3

Limited manual controls, No manual/custom white balance mode, Flash underpowered, occasional underexposure, Some edge softness at wide apertures, Small amount of chromatic aberration - not visible in normal shots, Visible noise in shadows at 200 and...

I must admit I fully expected to be underwhelmed by the P150, and didn't expect the 7MP CCD to offer any significant advantage over the 5MP version used in many cameras, including the existing P100.

6- and 7-Megapixel Digital Cameras

If size is a factor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P150-with its compact form, light weight, and 7-megapixel pictures-should fit your needs the best. We really liked the Casio Exilim EX-P600's striking and innovative Ex Finder, but for the same price, we prefer
