Sony Cyber Shot W review:

A junior version of the 7-megapixel DSC-W7 , the 5-megapixel Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W5 boasts the same no-nonsense, compact, metal-alloy body; gorgeous 2.5-inch LCD (which is coupled with a modest optical viewfinder for use in bright ambient light); 3X...

2.5-inch LCD; quick burst mode; flexible controls; solid image quality.

No shutter- or aperture-priority mode; manual focus limited to six preset steps; subpar optical viewfinder.

A 2.5-inch LCD, decent image quality, and both automated and selected manual controls make the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W5 a competent camera for the casual photographer.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W1

The W1 is fun to use, thanks to a monster 2.5-inch LCD, and it produces reasonably good-looking images.

Huge LCD. Images are well exposed with colors that pop. Simple to use. Advanced features, such as a real-time histogram and manual modes.

Very low scores on our resolution test for a 5MP camera. Sharpening may cause edges to look forced. Optical VF has some barrel distortion.

Though the DSC-W1 is fun to use, thanks to the huge 2.5-inch LCD, some image issues may lead you to look elsewhere for a 5MP camera.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W1

Were it not for its LCD, the Sony DSC-W1 might look like just another one of the many small, brick-shaped digital cameras on store shelves. But the monster, 2.5-inch screen on the back of the W1 clearly sets this camera apart--and it could make optical...

Sony's Picture Package, bundled with the W1, seems bare-bones. You use it to download images and view or archive images, but you'll find almost no image editing tools. The software CD includes an animated tutorial on the basics of photography and using...

Digital Cameras - Sony CyberShot DSC-W1 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-W1 is one of the latest in the long (and incredibly broad) line of digicams that reflect Sony's commanding position in the digicam marketplace. Sony's P-series digital cameras have been hugely popular in the compact and subcompact...

The Sony DSC-W1 could be described as a more rangefinder-styled DSC-P100 with a few of the features of the V1 and T1 thrown in for good measure. Most of the functions and the 3x zoom lens and small built-in flash are the same as (or at least very...

Expert Review

The SonyCyber-shot DSC-W1 ($399) is an ultra-compact5 Megapixel camera with a big 2.5" LCD, VGAmovie mode, and robust performance. It comes in bothsilver and black bodies.

Redeye, More manual controls would be nice, LCD nearly impossible to see in low light, Unimpressive software bundle; not very Mac friendly either, Flimsy plastic door over memory card slot

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W1

Great LCD, beautiful pictures, minimal shutter lag

Missing real manual controls (shutter speed and aperture)

Sony's Cyber-shot DSCW1 has most of what you could wish for in a compact, easy-to-use point-and-shoot.
