Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Review

If you're looking for a quality point and shoot that can double as your rugged cam, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is a great option.

If you’re specifically on the hunt for a dustproof, waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof point-and-shoot that you can really subject to the elements and push to the weather limits, the TX5 will do, but it can easily be bested by cameras without rugged...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5

Are you looking for a stylish camera or a rugged camera? Usually you have to pick one trait or the other, but the 10-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 offers both.

Large touchscreen works underwater ; Good performance in low light ; Rugged construction with slick looks

Menus are a bit confusing ; Touchscreen can be unresponsive

Sony's tough but fashionable DSC-TX5 offers excellent low-light shooting, but its touchscreen and menus are drawbacks.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Review

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is Sony's first waterproof, freezeproof, dustproof and shockproof digital compact camera. The 10 megapixel TX5 features an “Exmor R” back-illuminated CMOS image sensor which promises to greatly improve low-light performance,...

Tougher than it looks with its neatly diminutive dimensions, Sony's TX5 is a camera you'll find yourself readily slipping into a pocket when heading out for the day. You may not take your best and most admired shots with it - you'll need a budget DSLR...

Sony Cybershot DSC-TX5 Review

The TX5 is Sony's first waterproof point-and-shoot camera. Actually, I've been told there was a 2-megapixel model a few years ago. That makes this their first modern, rugged camera, with really useable features and resolution. The Sony Web site calls...

Very, Waterproof and shockproof, CMOS sensor delivers better image quality than other waterproof point-and-shoot cameras, Touchscreen display is great for playing in the water and works with gloves on!, Customizable controls, 10 frames-per-second full...

Too easy to get finger in front of lens, Polished sliding cover easily scratched, Sony menus less intuitive than other makers, Image quality not as good as non-waterproof cameras, Touchscreen means greasy fingerprints on LCD display, Active outdoor...

Review: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5

Sony's tough but fashionable DSC-TX5 offers excellent low-light shooting, but its touchscreen and menus are drawbacks.

The DSC-TX5 feels pretty sturdy—as a rugged camera should—and it has a shiny sliding cover to protect its 4X-optical-zoom Carl Zeiss lens (25mm wide-angle to 100mm telephoto). I found the lens cover a little hard to slide, especially in the water. You...

Sony DSC-TX5

Small, takes high-quality images, and can also handle rough treatment

Accurate colors; Sharp, low distortion stills

Poor video quality; Touchscreen isn’t always responsive

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is a small camera that takes high quality images with good color and plenty of detail. We also found that the images that it captured had low noise and that the special shooting modes that the camera offers produced great looking...

Sony Cybershot DSC-TX5 [REVIEW]

Olympus and Canon have done well with their ‘go anywhere' digicams, so Sony naturally saw a market opportunity with theTX5, able to descend to three metres underwater, dust-proof, ‘droppable' from a height of 1.5 metres and capable of withstanding a...

Quality: I found the TX5 took above average quality pictures for a compact digicam, although it was subject to flare, due to the lens being so exposed. Take my advice and use the upper ISO settings to attain the fast shutter speeds.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 digital camera

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is the first ruggedised Sony camera to hit the Australian market

Responsive touchscreen, start-up time is minimal

Took unimpressive photos during our tests, awkward design

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is something of a novelty: a ruggedised camera with an ultra-compact design. It's not quite as tough as some competing digital cameras, and we weren't overly impressed by its image quality.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5

How can a waterproof camera look this good?

Rugged skills without rugged looks ; Natural colour reproduction ; Large 3-inch touchscreen LCD

Autofocus slows a little low light ; Lack of manual settings options ; Touchscreen display not that responsive

The Sony Cyber-shot TX5 is a remarkable camera, a sleek and attractive pocket compact that is just as tough as most of the military-grade rugged compacts. Build quality is superb, the touch-screen interface is versatile and easy to use, performance is...
