Sony Alpha DSLR-A230

If you don't need advanced features, Sony's bargain-priced Alpha DSLR-A230 delivers the basics—along with great pictures—for $550 with lens.

Competitive price. Lightweight. Good image quality. Noise is unnoticeable up to and including ISO 1600. Clever interface guides beginners. HDMI port with support for HDMI CEC.

LCD does not support Live View. Kit lens produces soft images at wider apertures. Still image frame rate is a bit sluggish when compared with comparable cameras.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A230 review

A modest update over its predecessor, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 , the Alpha DSLR-A230 offers the same essential feature set in a redesigned body with sufficient quality and performance-enhancing firmware tweaks to merit the term "upgrade." And like its...

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A230 has fast autofocus; high magnification viewfinder for its class; dual card slots; relatively simple, straightforward operation; built-in wireless flash and image stabilization; helpful SteadyShot indicator.

Smallish grip; default settings produce suboptimal photos.

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A230 is a solid entry-level dSLR that will surely have its fans, and it's a better deal than its slightly higher-end sibling, the A330.

Sony A230 Review

The Sony A230 is a new entry-level 10.2 megapixel DSLR camera, replacing the popular A200 model. Intended to be easier to use for people new to SLR photography, the A230 features a smaller and lighter design and enhanced user interface. The A230...

The A230 is the third and final new entry-level Sony DSLR that we've reviewed, and as with the more expensive A330 and A380 models, it's a clear step backwards when compared with its predecessor, the A200. Offering no significant new features and...

Review: Sony A230 SLR camera

If you're on a budget, the A230 is one of the most affordable SLR kits around.

The quick and efficient A230 allows new users to point and shoot to begin with, before progressing to its quartet of creative modes and six scene options. As a further aid, turn the camera on its side to shoot and its LCD display will likewise flip...
