Sony Alpha 35 (SLT-A35K)

The Alpha 35 is a fast-shooting entry-level D-SLR that is capable of grabbing photos in subpar lighting conditions, but it's held back by a so-so electronic viewfinder.

Shoots at five frames per second. Fast autofocus. Compact for a D-SLR. Good high ISO performance.

So-so LCD EVF. Limited video settings. Just-ok kit lens. Proprietary hot shoe.

The quality of the camera's rear LCD is actually quite nice. The fixed 3-inch display is packed with 921k dots, and does a much better job displaying deep blacks as compared to the eye-level EVF. It still exhibits some lag during motion, but unlike...

Sony SLT-A35

The format of this review has been slightly shortened as the Sony SLT-A35 is in terms of operation and image output very similar to the Sony SLT-A55 that we reviewed in August 2010. To learn everything about the SLT-A35 we recommend reading not only...

Reliably good image quality at lower sensitivities ; Versatile and capable (for its class) 15-point AF system ; Accurate metering and focus ; Excellent LCD and good EVF, with efficient automatic switch ; Compact dimensions ; Auto+ mode makes the...

Higher RAW noise levels than some competitors ; Comparatively strong noise reduction at higher ISOs ; Little control over high ISO noise reduction in JPEG mode ('auto' or 'weak') ; Limited control in 7 fps continuous shooting and movie modes ; No live...

The Sony SLT-A35 is an excellent all-round performer that gets all the basic stuff right and is fun to shoot with. The feature set is great for a camera at this price point and if you can live without an optical viewfinder the SLT-A35 is a very good...

Sony Alpha SLT-A35 review: Sony Alpha SLT-A35

Sony Alpha SLT-A35

If you're looking for a model with fast performance, decent video capture, and the benefits of an electronic viewfinder, those are the ; strong suit.

Even compared to a dSLR it's a bit dowdy-looking and it's bulkier than competitive ILCs, with a couple of awkward control placements.

A solid camera for point-and-shoot upgraders who want to be able to shoot action and video, the Sonly Alpha SLT-A35's bulk may still be a turn-off for some.

Sony SLT-A35 Preview

With the overwhelming popularity of the SLT-α55 and SLT-α33 from 2010, Sony continues to build new dSLRs featuring their acclaimed Translucent Mirror Technology. The all new SLT-α35 builds off of the foundations laid by its predecessors, with various...

Sony A35 Review

Since stepping into the DSLR market in 2006, Sony have become possibly the most progressive company around. They've built on the existing reputation from Minolta and turned the cameras into something unique. In 2010, they took it one step further and...

There's a lot to say about the Sony A35. Considering that it's the baby of the range, it certainly packs a punch. The 16 megapixels should produce moderately good pictures, but they're stunning. The build quality should be noticeably lower at this...

Sony a35 Digital Camera Review

Sony has a long history of releasing cool electronic items and firsts in technology. In recent times Sony releases a translucent DSLR mirror and now the a35 has been lucky enough to score this technology. This new DSRL(T) is a pretty sharp little unit...

Camera Test: Sony Alpha SLT-A35

When we first saw Sony's semitransparent-mirror Alpha A55 and A33 DSLRs, we were intrigued. Then, when we saw how they performed in our tests, we were impressed. Now, Sony has released the A35 ($600, street, body only), a follow-up to the...

Sony Alpha SLT-A35 Review

You'll find this model on Sony's Web site by looking in the DSLR department. But a DSLR it ain't!

The entry level Sony Alpha A35 has no flipping mirror! Instead, it has a fixed, semi-reflective mirror placed in the light path that transmits 66.66 per cent of the light to the CMOS sensor in the back of the camera — and 33.33 per cent of it to a tiny...

Sony Alpha A35 digital SLR camera

A good-but-not-great compact digital SLR camera

Compact ; Excellent live view ; Built-in IS

Poor button ergonomics, no flip-out LCD ; Kit lens feels plasticky and cheap

The Sony Alpha A35 is a viable alternative for its entry-level Canon EOS 600D and Nikon D3100 competitors. It doesn’t have any special surprises in picture quality or usability, although we think the build quality of the bundled lens isn’t great and...
