Decent DVR
Years ago I had DirecTV TiVos and really liked those UIs. DirecTV is not quite as slick as TiVo, but they do have a few UI features TiVo did not have (when I last used a TiVo).
Been using this for over 1 year. My other DVR (HR22) seems sluggish at times. Over the past few years it appears DirecTV has been adding software overhead and causing the HR22 to slow down? The HR23 doesn't seem to have as much problem with performance.

All though DirectTV service is in my opinion better than cable. Their polocies, and customer service really lag behind.
Performs a little better than ther hr22's, and the larger hard drive is a plus. It is their best reciever yet. However HR24 is coming soon, and from what I understand has a much faster CPU, and completely banishes the poor performance experienced in...
In order to activate DirectTV obligated me to another 2 years of service. I was surprised, and dissapointed by this.

it's a great deal when on sale. directv installers charge a service fee to deliver a hd box to you if you order it from them
it is HD has lots of space on it. expandable with an esata external hdd. looks good
it is a lease. you technically don't own the box. some tv's can't be programmed into the remote to function 100
